Ethanol Extraction Extraction Equipment — Mechotech

Ethanol Extraction

Mechotech engineers Ethanol Extraction as a food-grade-ethanol solvent configuration of its extraction platforms — a solvent option already documented across Mechotech's continuous, counter-current, and other extraction equipment. Ethanol suits recovery of a broad range of moderately polar target compounds and is widely accepted in food, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical applications where solvent residue limits favour ethanol over hydrocarbon solvents such as hexane.

Feed material is contacted with food-grade ethanol within the same batch, continuous, or counter-current extraction body Mechotech supplies for its other solvent configurations, with ethanol flammability requiring ATEX/flame-proof electrical and mechanical provisions through the extraction, solvent-handling, and recovery train. The ethanol-rich miscella is filtered and clarified, then routed to Mechotech's solvent-recovery and distillation equipment, where ethanol is recovered and recirculated to the extraction stage for reuse. Mechotech fabricates the extraction vessel or body, solvent-handling system, and filtration/clarification train in SS 316L (or a process-appropriate grade) with electropolished product-contact surfaces, with capacity and configuration engineered to the customer's feedstock and target extract.

Manufacturing Process

1

Feed Preparation

Feed material is sized and prepared ahead of extraction to suit ethanol-based mass transfer.

2

Ethanol Charging / Contact

Food-grade ethanol is charged to or circulated through the extraction body, contacting the feed material at the process-controlled temperature.

3

Extraction Hold

The feed and ethanol are held in contact for the process-defined residence time, allowing target compounds to transfer into the extract.

4

Miscella Drawoff

The ethanol-rich extract (miscella) is drawn off from the extraction body for downstream filtration and solvent recovery.

5

Filtration & Clarification

The miscella passes through filtration to remove suspended solids ahead of solvent recovery and concentration.

6

Marc Discharge

Extracted, solvent-wet solids are discharged from the extraction body for downstream desolventising or disposal.

7

Solvent Recovery & Recirculation

Ethanol is recovered from the miscella through Mechotech's solvent-recovery and distillation equipment and returned to the extraction stage for reuse.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ethanol Extraction and why choose ethanol as the solvent?
Ethanol Extraction uses food-grade ethanol as the extraction medium. Ethanol suits recovery of a broad range of moderately polar target compounds and is widely accepted in food, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical applications where solvent residue limits favour ethanol over hydrocarbon solvents such as hexane.
What extraction formats are available for Ethanol Extraction?
Ethanol Extraction is available in batch, continuous, or counter-current configuration, built on the same extraction-body platforms Mechotech supplies for its other solvent options — see the Batch Extractor, Continuous Extractor, and Counter-Current Extractor.
Is the ethanol recovered and reused?
Yes. Ethanol is recovered from the miscella through Mechotech's solvent-recovery and distillation equipment and recirculated to the extraction stage, reducing fresh-solvent consumption across the process.
What safety provisions does ethanol extraction require?
Because ethanol is flammable, the extraction, solvent-handling, and recovery train is engineered with ATEX/flame-proof electrical and mechanical provisions throughout, consistent with the safety requirements Mechotech applies across its other ethanol-capable extraction equipment.
What capacity range can Mechotech supply?
Ethanol Extraction systems are engineered from pilot/R&D scale to commercial production, with extraction-body configuration, solvent-handling capacity, and recovery system sized to the confirmed feedstock and target extract. We recommend validating extraction parameters on a pilot system before scaling to full production.
Does Mechotech supply the complete Ethanol Extraction system as a turnkey plant?
Yes. Mechotech engineers, fabricates, installs, and commissions the complete extraction body, solvent-handling and recovery system, and control automation as a single accountable scope, with documentation to support GMP and regulatory qualification.
