Hydroalcoholic Extraction

Hydroalcoholic Extraction
Mechotech engineers Hydroalcoholic Extraction as a water-ethanol blended solvent configuration of its extraction platforms. Blending water with ethanol widens the polarity range of the extraction medium compared with either solvent alone, allowing both polar and moderately non-polar target compounds to be drawn into the same extract, and is a solvent option already documented across Mechotech's continuous, counter-current, and other extraction equipment.
Feed material is contacted with a water-ethanol blend at a ratio set for the target compound's polarity and solubility, within the same batch, continuous, or counter-current extraction body Mechotech supplies for its other solvent configurations. The blended solvent is recovered downstream through Mechotech's solvent-recovery and distillation equipment for reuse, since ethanol content requires solvent-recovery and ATEX/flame-proof provisions comparable to a pure-ethanol process. Mechotech fabricates the extraction vessel or body, solvent-handling system, and filtration/clarification train in SS 316L (or a process-appropriate grade) with electropolished product-contact surfaces, with capacity and configuration engineered to the customer's feedstock and target extract.

Manufacturing Process
Feed Preparation
Feed material is sized and prepared ahead of extraction to suit hydroalcoholic mass transfer.
Solvent Blending
Water and ethanol are blended to the process-defined ratio ahead of contact with the feed material.
Hydroalcoholic Contact
The blended solvent is charged to or circulated through the extraction body, contacting the feed material at the process-controlled temperature.
Extraction Hold
The feed and blended solvent are held in contact for the process-defined residence time, allowing both polar and moderately non-polar compounds to transfer into the extract.
Miscella Drawoff
The hydroalcoholic extract (miscella) is drawn off from the extraction body for downstream filtration and solvent recovery.
Filtration & Clarification
The miscella passes through filtration to remove suspended solids ahead of solvent recovery and concentration.
Marc Discharge
Extracted, solvent-wet solids are discharged from the extraction body for downstream desolventising or disposal.
Solvent Recovery & Recirculation
Ethanol is recovered from the miscella through Mechotech's solvent-recovery and distillation equipment and returned to the blending stage for reuse.

- Nutraceutical actives extraction across a wider polarity range than water or ethanol alone
- Tincture and liquid-extract production
Key Features
Wider Polarity Range
Blending water with ethanol draws both polar and moderately non-polar target compounds into the same extract, broadening recovery compared with either solvent alone.
Configurable Solvent Ratio
The water-ethanol ratio is set to the target compound's polarity and solubility, matching monograph-specified or process-validated hydroalcoholic strengths.
Integrated Solvent Recovery
Ethanol is recovered from the miscella and recirculated through Mechotech's solvent-recovery and distillation equipment, reducing fresh-solvent consumption.
Configurable Extraction Format
Available in batch, continuous, or counter-current configuration, built on the same extraction-body platforms Mechotech supplies for its other solvent options.
GMP-Compliant Construction
Electropolished SS 316L product-contact surfaces meet WHO-GMP and Schedule M requirements for regulated-industry production.
