Process Reactor Reaction / Synthesis Equipment — Mechotech

Process Reactor

A process reactor is an agitated vessel used as a general-purpose unit for mixing, reaction or process-holding duties. Mechotech designs and manufactures the Process Reactor as turnkey process equipment in SS 316L (or a process-appropriate grade) for pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food and botanical process lines. Each unit is configured to the client’s duty, batch size and target output, then fabricated, installed and commissioned by Mechotech as a single accountable scope. It sits in Mechotech’s reaction and synthesis equipment range alongside the chemical, jacketed, stainless steel, synthesis, glass-lined and high-pressure reactors.

The Process Reactor is an SS 316L (or process-appropriate grade) agitated vessel with electropolished product-contact surfaces and integrated instrumentation, configured to the unit operation it supports. As labelled on the page’s original illustration, a typical configuration has an agitator motor and drive, a sight glass, a process inlet, a pressure gauge, jacket inlet and outlet connections and a product outlet, with a control panel offering automated operation, temperature and pressure monitoring, agitation control, data logging and reports and CIP / SIP readiness. The configuration is selected to the duty; capacity, materials and ancillaries are established during process development and pilot validation, and no fixed figures are quoted on this page.

Manufacturing Process

1

Charging

Raw materials and solvents are charged through the process inlet.

2

Agitation & Mixing

The agitator keeps the contents mixed so heat and reactants are distributed through the batch.

3

Heating or Cooling (where required)

Where the duty needs it, hot or cold media circulating through the jacket inlet and outlet bring the batch to, and hold it at, the process temperature.

4

Reaction or Processing

The batch runs under monitored temperature, agitation and pressure for the process duty.

5

Discharge

The processed batch is discharged through the product outlet.

6

Clean-in-Place

Where CIP / SIP-ready connections are fitted, the vessel is cleaned between batches.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a process reactor and when is it used?
A process reactor is an agitated vessel used as a general-purpose unit where a batch must be mixed, reacted or held under controlled conditions. The duty, the temperature range and whether a jacket is needed are set during process design.
Does Mechotech supply the complete Process Reactor?
Yes. Mechotech engineers and fabricates the complete Process Reactor at its Hyderabad facility, then installs and commissions it as a single integrated system, with documentation to support GMP and regulatory qualification. Final parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
How does the Process Reactor differ from the other reactors Mechotech lists?
The Chemical Reactor is the general agitated reaction vessel with a jacket, and the Jacketed Reactor concentrates on the heating and cooling duty. The Glass-Lined Reactor adds a glass surface for aggressive acids and alkalis, and the High-Pressure Reactor is pressure-rated for reactions above atmospheric pressure. The choice is made against the actual chemistry and operating conditions.
What controls does the Process Reactor have?
A typical control panel offers automated operation, temperature and pressure monitoring, agitation control, and data logging and reports, with CIP / SIP readiness as an option. The final configuration is set to the client’s process.
What capacities are available for the Process Reactor?
Mechotech builds the Process Reactor from pilot units for process validation to larger commercial installations. Vessel volume, agitation, jacket duty and ancillaries are configured to the confirmed batch size and process; we recommend a pilot unit to validate parameters before scaling.
What information is needed to specify a Process Reactor?
To configure the vessel Mechotech needs the process chemistry and materials involved, the batch size, the temperature range and any heating or cooling duty, the mixing duty, the operating pressure, whether vapour must be condensed and the hygiene and documentation requirements. A pilot unit is recommended before scaling.
