Pressure Nutsche Filter

Pressure Nutsche Filter
A pressure Nutsche filter is an enclosed pressure vessel with a perforated filter plate on which the solid cake collects as the process liquid is forced through under applied pressure rather than vacuum. Mechotech engineers and manufactures the Pressure Nutsche Filter as turnkey process equipment for pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food and botanical processing lines that need enclosed, pressure-driven solid-liquid separation. Each unit is configured to the client’s feed and target output, then fabricated, installed and commissioned by Mechotech as a single accountable scope.
The Pressure Nutsche Filter is built in SS 316L (or a process-appropriate grade) as a fully enclosed pressure vessel with a perforated filter plate, with electropolished product-contact surfaces and integrated instrumentation so it can be cleaned in place between batches and operated under PLC-based control. The filtrate leaves through the outlet to a receiver. Filtration area, vessel size, operating pressure rating, cake washing and discharge arrangements are configured to the client’s requirement and confirmed during process design and pilot validation; no fixed figures are quoted on this page.
Technical Specifications
| Product | Pressure Nutsche Filter |
|---|---|
| Technology | Nutsche filtration under applied pressure — enclosed pressure vessel with a perforated filter plate |
| Working Principle | The solid cake collects on the filter plate as the process liquid is forced through it under applied pressure rather than vacuum |
| Driving Force | Applied pressure, configured to the duty; the vacuum variant is the separate Nutsche Filter page |
| Filter Medium | Perforated plate with a filter medium selected for the feed |
| Vessel Construction | SS 316L (or process-appropriate grade), electropolished product-contact surfaces; pressure rating configured to the duty |
| Filtrate Collection | Filtrate outlet to a receiver vessel |
| Cleaning | Clean-in-place (CIP) between batches |
| Automation | PLC-based control with integrated instrumentation |
| Capacity | Configured to requirement — pilot to commercial, with modular expansion |
| Compliance | GMP hygienic design; full documentation for qualification |
| Output | Filtrate (clarified process liquid) and retained solid cake |
Plant Capacities
| Scale | Typical Duty | Configuration |
|---|---|---|
| Pilot | Process validation and small-batch solid-liquid separation | Small pressure Nutsche vessel with a filtrate receiver |
| Production | Plant-scale batch filtration | Filter plate area, vessel size and pressure rating configured to the feed and the cake volume |
| Large commercial | Larger batch volumes | Larger vessel and ancillaries, with modular expansion |
Filtration area, vessel size, operating pressure and discharge arrangement are configured to the feed and batch size; a pilot trial on the actual slurry is recommended before scaling.
Manufacturing Process
Slurry Charging
The slurry or process liquid containing the solids is charged into the closed filter vessel.
Pressure Filtration
Applied pressure forces the liquid through the filter medium on the perforated plate; the solids are retained and form a cake.
Filtrate Collection
The filtrate leaves through the filtrate outlet to the receiver.
Cake Washing (where required)
Where the process needs it, the cake is washed on the plate to displace remaining liquor.
Cake Discharge
The retained solids are discharged from the vessel for the next stage.
Clean-in-Place
The vessel is cleaned in place between batches.
