Oak Moss Wood Absolute Extraction Plants — Mechotech

Oak Moss

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey wood absolute extraction plants for Oak Moss. The product tree lists the feed as moss / lichen. The Sureka Life Sciences (SLS) catalogue lists Oak Moss Extract with Evernia prunastri as the botanical source and evernic acid (catalogue grade 3%) as the marker compound, with perfumery as its primary application. The plant extracts the moss with food-grade solvent, filters and concentrates the extract with solvent recovery and standardises it to the client’s specification. The exact feed form is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.

Mechotech’s Oak Moss plant is configured around the raw material and the target extract. Built in SS 316L with integrated solvent recovery, automation and full documentation, each plant is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. The solvent, temperatures and cycle times are established during process development and pilot validation.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Oak moss is authenticated, cleaned of bark, twigs and foreign matter, tested for moisture and, where required, size-reduced so that the solvent reaches the lichen material; the feed form and particle size are set during process development.

2

Extraction

Milled Oak Moss is extracted with food-grade solvent (alcohol / aqueous) in closed jacketed SS 316L extractors under controlled temperature and multiple cycles to maximise recovery of the target actives.

3

Filtration

The extract (miscella) is clarified through a plate-and-frame filter press followed by cartridge polish filters.

4

Concentration & Solvent Recovery

The miscella is concentrated in a falling-film / vacuum evaporator, with solvent recovered through the condenser return system.

5

Standardisation

The concentrate is assayed and adjusted to the client’s target specification before release.

6

Quality Control & Release

The standardised Oak Moss concentrate is released after assay, residual-solvent, heavy-metal, microbial and moisture testing.

From Plant to Product

Oak Moss Extract

This botanical is also in the product range of Sureka Life Sciences, our sister concern in botanical ingredients.

Applications

  • Perfumery (primary application listed by Sureka Life Sciences)
  • Cosmetics and skin-care products

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

Electropolished SS 316L product-contact surfaces with CIP operation between batches.

  • Closed-Loop Solvent Recovery

Integrated condenser-return recovery reuses solvent between batches and reduces solvent loss.

  • Standardised to Specification

In-process and batch-release assay are used to check the finished extract against the agreed target specification.

  • Concentrate Finishing & Quality Control

Concentration and finishing are configured for a solvent-extracted aromatic concentrate rather than a spray-dried powder, with batch-release testing and certificate-of-analysis documentation.

  • Scalable Batch Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Oak Moss?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Oak Moss — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Oak Moss plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Oak Moss; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and batch-release testing with certificate-of-analysis documentation is defined with the client.
What production capacities are available for the Oak Moss plant?
Capacity for the Oak Moss plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which industries use the Oak Moss plant?
The end-use areas listed for Oak Moss on this page are given under Applications. The Sureka Life Sciences entry names perfumery as the primary application and also lists cosmetics and skin care; it additionally lists health-related use areas, which are catalogue entries and not performance claims by Mechotech. The end use and the target specification are confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How is Oak Moss extract produced in Mechotech’s extraction plant?
The moss is authenticated, moisture-tested and size-reduced, extracted with food-grade solvent (alcohol / aqueous) in closed jacketed SS 316L extractors over multiple cycles, clarified through a plate-and-frame filter press and cartridge polish filters, and concentrated in a falling-film / vacuum evaporator with closed-loop solvent recovery. The concentrate is standardised and released after assay, residual-solvent, heavy-metal, microbial and moisture testing. The line sits within Mechotech's Wood Absolute Extraction Plants range.
Is oak moss a wood, a moss or a lichen?
The product tree lists Oak Moss as moss / lichen, and the Sureka Life Sciences entry names Evernia prunastri as the botanical source. The page sits in the Wood Absolute Extraction Plants range because that is where the catalogue lists it; the raw material is the moss or lichen, not wood, and its exact form is confirmed with the client.
Which marker does the oak moss extract carry?
The Sureka Life Sciences catalogue lists evernic acid as the marker compound, with a catalogue grade of 3% evernic acid. This is a catalogue figure, not a Mechotech guarantee: the level achievable for a given moss supply is established during process development, and the specification is agreed with the buyer.
Which neighbouring plants does the product tree list with Oak Moss?
Mechotech’s product tree lists Oak Moss (Moss / Lichen) in the Wood Absolute Extraction Plants group after Indian Sandal Wood and before the Seeds & Berries Extraction Plants group. Australian Sandal Wood Absolute is another wood absolute page. Each is a different raw material with its own page.
