Rose Hip Extract Powder

Rose Hip Extract Powder
Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey extraction plants for Rose Hip (Rosa canina), processing the dried fruit — the seed-bearing false fruit of the wild rose, not a leaf, root, or flower petal — into a powder standardised from 10% up to 90% Polyphenols by UV. Rose hip is genuinely one of the most concentrated natural sources of vitamin C found among fruits, alongside a rich polyphenol and flavonoid profile, which together underpin its long-standing antioxidant and joint-health reputation; the plant's declared standardisation here is polyphenols by UV, so vitamin C content is preserved through gentle processing and described qualitatively rather than assayed as the release specification. We supply the complete machinery — fruit-shell cleaning, deseeding and milling, aqueous-ethanol extraction, filtration, resin/membrane purification, vacuum concentration with solvent recovery, UV standardisation, and spray drying — to convert rose hip fruit into a consistent extract powder for nutraceutical, functional-food, and cosmetic buyers.
Mechotech's Rose Hip plant is engineered around two distinctive features of this fruit-based raw material: the fruit shell's naturally high native vitamin C and polyphenol content, which is genuinely more vitamin-C-rich than most other fruits used in botanical extraction and therefore benefits from lower processing temperatures than a root, bark, or seed line would require; and the unusually wide 10%-90% polyphenol specification range, which is achieved on the same base plant by adding an optional resin or membrane purification stage for higher-grade orders. The line uses deseeded fruit-shell milling, controlled low-temperature aqueous-ethanol extraction, staged filtration to manage pulp and fibre load, and vacuum concentration tuned to protect both polyphenols and residual vitamin C content. Built in SS 316L with electropolished product-contact surfaces, PLC-SCADA automation, and full batch documentation, each plant is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system engineered to the declared Polyphenols by UV specification.

Manufacturing Process
Fruit Cleaning & Deseeding
Dried rose hip fruit is cleaned of stem and calyx fragments, deseeded to isolate the vitamin-C- and polyphenol-rich outer shell, and tested for moisture — a raw-material handling step distinct from a leaf, root, or bark line, since rose hip is processed as a whole fruit shell rather than a fibrous plant part.
Size Reduction
Deseeded fruit shells are milled to a uniform particle size to expose the pulp and skin tissue where polyphenols and natural vitamin C are concentrated, ahead of extraction.
Low-Temperature Aqueous-Ethanol Extraction
Milled fruit material is charged into closed, jacketed SS 316L extractors and extracted with water or aqueous ethanol (40-70% v/v) at a moderated 40-60°C — kept lower than many leaf or bark extraction lines specifically to limit degradation of rose hip's naturally high native vitamin C content alongside its polyphenol fraction.
Filtration
The extract (miscella) is clarified through a plate-and-frame filter press followed by 1-5 micron cartridge polish filters, removing fruit pulp and fine solids before concentration.
Resin/Membrane Purification for High-Grade Output
For specifications above the standard 10% grade, the extract passes a macroporous resin or membrane purification stage that enriches the polyphenol fraction, allowing the same base plant to reach grades up to 90% by UV.
Vacuum Concentration
The filtered or purified miscella is concentrated in a falling-film evaporator at 45-60°C under vacuum — again kept moderate to protect residual vitamin C and polyphenol content — with ethanol recovered and recycled through a closed-loop system.
UV Standardisation
The concentrate is assayed by UV for total polyphenol content and adjusted to the specific declared grade ordered, from 10% up to 90%, before drying.
Spray Drying & Quality Control
The standardised concentrate is spray-dried under controlled inlet/outlet temperature to a free-flowing powder. Each batch undergoes UV assay, residual-solvent, heavy-metal, microbial, and moisture testing before release with full certificate-of-analysis documentation.

Key Features
GMP Hygienic SS 316L Construction
All product-contact surfaces are electropolished SS 316L, using GMP hygienic design for botanical extract manufacturing, with CIP operation between batches.
Wide Specification Range (10%-90% by UV)
An optional resin/membrane purification stage lets the same plant produce standard 10% grades through to enriched 90% polyphenol powders by UV, matching different buyer specifications.
Native Vitamin C & Polyphenol Protection
Closed low-temperature extraction and vacuum concentration at 40-60°C preserve rose hip's naturally concentrated native vitamin C alongside its polyphenol fraction, both of which underlie the fruit's antioxidant reputation.
Fruit-Specific Deseeding & Size Reduction
Dedicated deseeding equipment isolates the vitamin-C- and polyphenol-rich fruit shell from the seed before milling, a step unique to fruit-based raw material versus a leaf or root line.
Closed-Loop Solvent Recovery
Integrated condenser-distillation recovery returns ethanol for reuse each batch, reducing fresh-solvent consumption.
Scalable Batch Capacity
Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with a modular design that allows expansion without replacing core equipment.
