Astragalus Extract Powder

Astragalus Extract Powder
Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey extraction plants for Astragalus Extract Powder, processing the dried root of Astragalus membranaceus — one of the most significant, well-established adaptogen and immune-support botanicals from Traditional Chinese Medicine, with major global nutraceutical demand — into an extract standardised to 0.3%-1% Astragaloside A by HPLC. Astragaloside A is a cycloartane-type triterpene saponin glycoside concentrated in the root's woody core, and its low-percentage marker range reflects a genuinely potent, low-abundance active rather than a dilute one — the extraction and purification stages are engineered accordingly, with an enrichment step to reliably concentrate the saponin fraction into this specification band. We supply the complete machinery — root cleaning, slicing/milling, aqueous-ethanol extraction, filtration, resin purification, vacuum concentration, closed-loop solvent recovery, standardisation and spray drying — as a single turnkey system for the nutraceutical, TCM, and pharmaceutical-ingredient industries.
Mechotech's Astragalus plant is engineered around the specific chemistry of Astragalus membranaceus root: astragaloside A is a low-abundance, high-value triterpene saponin, so the process is built to both maximise recovery from the root's fibrous, woody tissue and then selectively enrich the saponin fraction to reach the declared 0.3%-1% HPLC specification — a materially different purification demand than botanicals standardised against an already-abundant marker compound. Root is sliced and milled to expose the saponin-bearing tissue, extracted under controlled aqueous-ethanol conditions, and passed through a dedicated resin-adsorption purification stage that concentrates astragaloside A ahead of HPLC-based standardisation. Built in SS 316L with electropolished product-contact surfaces, closed-loop solvent recovery, and full batch documentation, each plant is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system engineered to the declared specification.

Manufacturing Process
Root Cleaning & Slicing
Dried Astragalus membranaceus root is authenticated, cleaned of soil and foreign matter, and sliced/milled to expose the woody core tissue where astragaloside A is concentrated, ahead of solvent contact.
Aqueous-Ethanol Extraction
Milled root is charged into closed, jacketed SS 316L extractors and extracted with a controlled aqueous-ethanol solvent system across multiple cycles at regulated temperature, targeting maximum recovery of the low-abundance astragaloside A saponin.
Filtration
The extract is clarified through a plate-and-frame filter press followed by cartridge polish filters, removing root fibre and starch residue before purification.
Resin-Adsorption Enrichment
Because astragaloside A is a comparatively low-abundance, high-value marker, the filtered extract is passed through a macroporous resin-adsorption column that selectively enriches the saponin fraction — the additional purification stage needed to concentrate the extract reliably into the declared 0.3%-1% band.
Vacuum Concentration & Solvent Recovery
The enriched extract is concentrated in a falling-film vacuum evaporator at controlled temperature, with ethanol recovered and recycled through the closed-loop system.
Standardisation
The concentrate is assayed by HPLC for astragaloside A content and adjusted to the declared 0.3%-1% specification before drying.
Spray Drying & Quality Control
The standardised concentrate is spray-dried to a free-flowing powder with controlled inlet/outlet temperature, then released after HPLC assay, residual-solvent, heavy-metal, microbial, and moisture testing with full certificate-of-analysis documentation.

Key Features
Resin-Enrichment for a Low-Abundance Marker
A dedicated resin-adsorption stage selectively concentrates astragaloside A, a comparatively low-abundance, high-value saponin, reliably into the declared 0.3%-1% HPLC band.
Root-Specific Size Reduction
Slicing and milling are matched to Astragalus root's woody core structure to maximise solvent contact with the saponin-bearing tissue.
GMP Hygienic SS 316L Construction
Electropolished SS 316L product-contact surfaces use GMP hygienic design, with CIP operation between batches.
Closed-Loop Solvent Recovery
Integrated recovery returns ethanol for reuse each batch, reducing fresh-solvent consumption.
Standardised 0.3%-1% Assay by HPLC
In-process and batch-release HPLC assay are used to check the finished powder against its declared specification for consistent, buyer-ready quality.
Scalable Batch Capacity
Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.
