Olive Leaf Extract Powder

Olive Leaf Extract Powder
Extraction Technologies
Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey extraction plants for Olive Leaf (Olea europaea), processing the dried leaf — not the fruit or pomace — into a powder standardised to 10%-40% Oleuropein by HPLC. Oleuropein is a bitter secoiridoid glycoside concentrated in the leaf tissue, and it is this leaf-specific chemistry, rather than the oil-bearing fruit chemistry most people associate with olive, that drives the plant's cardiovascular and antioxidant positioning in nutraceutical and functional-food formulation. Because the raw material is a dried leaf rather than a root, bark, or seed, sourcing and pre-treatment are built around consistent leaf-batch moisture control and gentle milling that avoids excessive fines from the leaf's waxy cuticle. We supply the complete machinery — leaf cleaning, milling, aqueous-ethanol extraction, filtration, purification, vacuum concentration with solvent recovery, standardisation, and spray drying — to convert olive leaf into a consistent, HPLC-verified extract powder for nutraceutical, functional-food, and pharmaceutical buyers. Candidate extraction technologies for oleuropein: Counter-Current Extraction (CCE), Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE), Hybrid Extraction and Microwave-Assisted Extraction (MAE) (4 in total).
Mechotech's Olive Leaf plant is engineered around the extraction behaviour of oleuropein, a glycoside that is comparatively more heat- and hydrolysis-sensitive than many polyphenol classes — prolonged high-temperature contact or excessive acidity can cleave the glycosidic bond and degrade the marker compound before it ever reaches the standardisation stage. The line therefore runs a moderated aqueous-ethanol extraction with controlled residence time, rapid clarification to limit hold-up time in the miscella, and a low-temperature vacuum concentration step, so oleuropein content is preserved through to spray drying. Built in SS 316L with electropolished product-contact surfaces, PLC-SCADA automation, and full batch documentation, each plant is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system configured to the declared 10%-40% Oleuropein by HPLC specification, with FSSAI and GMP hygienic design.

Manufacturing Process
Each extraction method follows a different process — pick a method to see its steps.
Raw-Material Preparation
Olive leaves are cleaned and size-reduced so oleuropein can be reached by the extraction medium; particle size and moisture are set during process development.
Counter-Current Loading
Prepared olive leaves are fed into a multi-stage solid–liquid counter-current extractor where fresh ethanol/water or a suitable food-grade solvent meets the most-depleted material.
Counter-Current Extraction
Solvent flows against the solids across stages to draw out oleuropein; bed flow and fines management are verified during pilot work.
Extract (Miscella) Collection
The oleuropein-bearing miscella is collected from the fresh-feed end while spent solids are discharged from the solvent-entry end.
Concentration & Solvent Recovery
Solvent is removed from the clarified oleuropein-bearing extract under vacuum and returned through a solvent-recovery loop; recovery performance is confirmed at pilot scale.
Standardisation & Drying
The oleuropein extract is assayed against the declared target specification and dried or supplied as a concentrate, according to the requirement.
Raw-Material Preparation
Olive leaves are cleaned and size-reduced so oleuropein can be reached by the extraction medium; particle size and moisture are set during process development.
Slurrying
Prepared olive leaves are slurried with ethanol/water or water in the extraction vessel.
Ultrasonic Cavitation
Ultrasound creates cavitation that disrupts the plant matrix and speeds release of oleuropein; probe intensity, temperature and filtration behaviour are piloted.
Separation
Spent solids are separated by filtration or centrifugation and the extract is clarified before concentration.
Stage Sequence Selection
A deliberate combined extraction train is used: the sequence of stages is selected for oleuropein in pilot screening and each stage is designed separately.
First Assisted Stage
The first stage releases oleuropein from the prepared feed under controlled conditions set for that stage.
Second / Combined Stage
The second stage completes recovery of oleuropein from the partially extracted material; stage conditions are optimised separately.
Separation & Concentration
Spent solids are removed and the combined extract is clarified and concentrated; solvent is recovered where a solvent is used.
Medium Mixing
Prepared olive leaves are mixed with ethanol/water or water in the microwave extraction vessel.
Microwave Heating & Extraction
Controlled microwave heating drives oleuropein out of the prepared feed in a short cycle; heating, moisture, solvent safety and temperature-sensitive targets are controlled, with limits set during process development and pilot validation.
Separation
Spent solids are separated by filtration or centrifugation and the extract is clarified before concentration.

Key Features
GMP Hygienic SS 316L Construction
All product-contact surfaces are electropolished SS 316L, using GMP hygienic design for botanical extract manufacturing, with CIP operation between batches.
Glycoside-Protective Processing
Extraction cycle design, rapid clarification, and low-temperature vacuum concentration are tuned to oleuropein's hydrolytic sensitivity, limiting the degradation risk that a stable, more heat-tolerant plant marker would not face.
Standardised 10%-40% Assay by HPLC
In-process and batch-release HPLC assay are used to check the finished powder against its declared 10%-40% oleuropein specification for consistent, buyer-ready quality.
Optional Resin/Membrane Purification
An in-line purification stage lets the same plant reach higher-grade specifications at the top of the 10%-40% band without separate equipment.
Closed-Loop Solvent Recovery
Integrated condenser-distillation recovery returns ethanol to the process.
Scalable Batch Capacity
Plants are configured to raw-material supply and confirmed buyer volume, with modular expansion.
