Vanilla
Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey seeds & berries extraction plants for Vanilla (Vanilla planifolia), processing cured vanilla beans into vanilla extract and oleoresin. Vanillin is the dominant flavour compound in cured vanilla pods, and its content is assayed by HPLC and graded to buyer specification — a genuinely real, chromatographically-verifiable industry practice. Unlike most botanical raw materials, vanilla beans require curing (a controlled fermentation and drying process) before extraction, a distinctive step that develops the pod's flavour and aroma profile ahead of solvent processing. We supply the complete machinery — cured bean preparation, milling, percolation/solvent extraction, filtration, vacuum concentration, closed-loop solvent recovery, and standardisation — to process cured vanilla beans into a consistent extract or oleoresin for the food, beverage, flavour, and fragrance industries.
Mechotech's Vanilla plant is engineered around the specific processing chemistry of cured vanilla pods: beans arrive at the plant already having undergone curing (blanching, sweating, sun-drying and conditioning by the grower or a dedicated curing facility), a fermentation-driven process that develops vanillin and hundreds of secondary aroma compounds from the flavourless green bean — a genuinely distinctive raw-material step with no equivalent in most botanical extraction lines. Extraction itself is carried out by percolation or solvent extraction of the cured, chopped pod to recover the full flavour complex into an alcohol-based extract or concentrated oleoresin. Built in SS 316L with electropolished product-contact surfaces, closed-loop solvent recovery, PLC-based automation and full batch documentation, each plant is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system, with vanillin content assayed by HPLC and the finished extract or oleoresin graded to the buyer's declared specification.

Plant Capacities
| Plant Scale | Cured Bean Throughput | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Pilot | Configured to your feedstock and trial plan | Product development, flavour-profile validation |
| Semi-Commercial | Configured between pilot and commercial scale | Contract manufacturing, scale-up trials |
| Commercial | Configured to raw-material supply and confirmed buyer volume | Export-grade continuous production |
Capacity is configured to cured-bean supply and confirmed buyer volume; vanillin content and flavour complexity vary with curing quality and bean origin, so we recommend a pilot run to validate extraction parameters before scaling.
Manufacturing Process
Cured Bean Reception & Inspection
Cured vanilla beans (already fermented, sweated and conditioned by the grower/curing facility) are inspected for moisture, flexibility, aroma and visual quality — curing quality directly affects the flavour complex available for extraction. Extraction plants typically run on lower-grade cut, split, or blemished cured beans (unsuitable for whole-bean retail sale but equal in vanillin content) rather than premium whole gourmet beans, since extraction destroys the pod's visual form in any case.
Chopping & Size Reduction
Cured pods are chopped or milled to a uniform particle size to maximise surface area for solvent contact ahead of percolation.
Percolation / Hydro-Alcoholic Extraction
Chopped cured beans are charged into closed, jacketed SS 316L extraction vessels and extracted by percolation or controlled hydro-alcoholic solvent extraction, recovering vanillin together with the pod's full secondary flavour and aroma complex.
Solid-Liquid Separation & Filtration
The extract is clarified through a plate-and-frame filter press followed by cartridge polish filters to remove pod fibre and particulate.
Concentration (Oleoresin Grade)
Where oleoresin is required, the filtered extract is concentrated in a falling-film / vacuum evaporator under reduced pressure and moderated temperature to protect the volatile flavour fraction, with closed-loop solvent recovery.
HPLC Assay & Grading
Vanillin content is assayed by HPLC, and the finished vanilla extract or oleoresin is graded and adjusted to the buyer's declared specification.
Quality Control & Packing
The graded extract or oleoresin is released after vanillin HPLC assay, residual-solvent, heavy-metal, microbial, and moisture testing with full certificate-of-analysis documentation, then packed to food/flavour-grade standards.

Key Features
GMP Hygienic SS 316L Construction
Electropolished SS 316L product-contact surfaces use GMP, HACCP and FSSAI hygienic design, with CIP operation between batches.
Built Around Cured-Bean Processing
The line is engineered for cured vanilla pods arriving with their flavour complex already developed by fermentation and conditioning — a genuinely distinctive raw-material step not shared by botanicals extracted directly from fresh or simply dried plant material.
Closed-Loop Solvent Recovery
Integrated recovery returns the extraction solvent for reuse per batch for oleoresin-grade production.
HPLC-Verified Vanillin Assay & Grading
In-process and batch-release HPLC assay quantify vanillin content, with the finished extract or oleoresin graded to the buyer's declared specification and full certificate-of-analysis documentation.
Dual-Format Output
The same line can finish product as a liquid alcoholic vanilla extract or as a concentrated oleoresin, matched to food, beverage, or fragrance buyer requirements.
Scalable Batch Capacity
Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.
