Styrax Benzoin Absolute Gum & Resin Extraction Plants — Mechotech

Styrax Benzoin Absolute

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey gum & resin extraction plants for Styrax Benzoin Absolute. The product tree lists the entry as Styrax Benzoin Absolute under Gum & Resin Extraction Plants, and Mechotech’s legacy page for the Benzoin Resin Extraction & Distillation Plant describes benzoin resin and essential oil from the resin of the Styrax benzoin tree, by solvent extraction and steam distillation, for pharmaceutical, perfumery, incense and cosmetic uses. This page covers the solvent-extraction route to an absolute; the distillation route is on the separate Benzoin page. The Sureka Life Sciences (SLS) catalogue lists Styrax Benzoin Absolute Extract with Styrax benzoin Dryand as the botanical source and benzoic acid as the offering grade. The resin form and grade are confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.

Mechotech’s Styrax Benzoin Absolute plant is configured around the raw material and the target absolute. Built in SS 316L with integrated solvent recovery, automation and full documentation, each plant is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. The solvent, extraction conditions and finishing steps are set during process development and pilot validation.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Benzoin resin is graded and inspected on receipt, cleaned of bark and debris and, where required, crushed or ground to a form that gives good solvent contact; the grade, form and particle size are confirmed with the client and set during process development.

2

Extraction

The prepared resin is extracted with a food-grade solvent in closed jacketed SS 316L extractors under controlled temperature, in one or more stages, to dissolve the resin’s aromatic fraction. The solvent, ratio and temperature are set during process development.

3

Filtration

The extract (miscella) is clarified through a plate-and-frame filter press followed by cartridge polish filters.

4

Concentration & Solvent Recovery

The miscella is concentrated in a falling-film / vacuum evaporator, with solvent recovered through the condenser return system.

5

Standardisation

The concentrate is assayed and adjusted to the client’s target absolute specification, with benzoic acid as the catalogue marker, before final finishing. The assay method and the acceptance limits are agreed with the buyer.

6

Finishing & Quality Control

The standardised absolute is polish-filtered, stripped of residual solvent and released after assay, residual-solvent, heavy-metal and microbial testing.

From Plant to Product

Styrax Benzoin Absolute Extract

This botanical is also in the product range of Sureka Life Sciences, our sister concern in botanical ingredients.

Applications

  • Perfumery and fragrance compositions (per Mechotech’s legacy page and the catalogue)
  • Cosmetics and skin-care products
  • Pharmaceutical uses and incense (per the legacy page)
  • Aromatherapy applications (catalogue use area)
  • Respiratory-support and oral-care products (catalogue use areas)

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

Electropolished SS 316L product-contact surfaces with CIP operation between batches.

  • Alcohol / Aqueous Solvent Extraction

Closed jacketed extractors run food-grade alcohol or aqueous solvent over multiple cycles to recover the target fraction.

  • Closed-Loop Solvent Recovery

Integrated condenser-return recovery reuses solvent between batches and reduces solvent loss.

  • Standardised to Specification

In-process and batch-release assay are used to check the finished extract against the agreed target specification.

  • Scalable Batch Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Styrax Benzoin Absolute?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Styrax Benzoin Absolute — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Styrax Benzoin Absolute plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Styrax Benzoin Absolute; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and batch-release testing with certificate-of-analysis documentation is defined with the client.
What production capacities are available for the Styrax Benzoin Absolute plant?
Capacity for the Styrax Benzoin Absolute plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which industries use the Styrax Benzoin Absolute plant?
Mechotech’s legacy page lists pharmaceuticals, perfumery, incense and cosmetics, and the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue lists respiratory relief, skin care and healing, aromatherapy and emotional balance, oral health, perfumery and fragrance, and cosmetics and skincare as application areas; these are catalogue use areas, not performance claims by Mechotech. The end use and the target specification are confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How is Styrax Benzoin Absolute extract produced in Mechotech’s extraction plant?
The benzoin resin is graded, cleaned and, where required, crushed, then extracted with a food-grade solvent in closed jacketed SS 316L extractors. The solution is clarified through a plate-and-frame filter press and cartridge polish filters, concentrated in a falling-film / vacuum evaporator with solvent recovery, stripped of residual solvent to an absolute and released after assay and quality testing. The solvent, conditions and any finishing step are set during process development and pilot validation.
Which part of benzoin is processed, and which species?
Mechotech’s legacy page describes the resin of the Styrax benzoin tree, and the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue entry for Styrax Benzoin Absolute Extract lists Styrax benzoin Dryand with benzoic acid (CAS 9000-05-9 in that entry). The grade and form of the resin are confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How does this page differ from the Benzoin distillation page?
Benzoin is the benzoin distillation page, a steam-distillation route that produces an oil, while this page is the solvent-extraction route to an absolute, listed under Gum & Resin Extraction Plants. The route, the product and the specification differ. Mechotech’s legacy page describes both routes for the same resin; confirm which product is wanted.
Is there a catalogue conflict on the botanical source?
Yes. The Sureka Life Sciences entry for its Benzoin Resin Distillation product lists the botanical source as Zanthoxylum armatum, which does not match benzoin resin, and gives the same CAS number (9000-05-9) as the Styrax Benzoin Absolute Extract entry. That is a catalogue data issue and is not used here; this page follows Mechotech’s legacy page and the Styrax benzoin entry.
Which equipment finishes the benzoin absolute?
After solvent extraction, the solution is clarified on a Filter Press and concentrated in a Falling Film Evaporator with solvent recovery, then stripped of residual solvent to give the absolute. The finishing form is agreed with the client.
Which related pages does Mechotech list for gums and resins?
The hub is Gum & Resin Extraction Plants, and the distillation counterpart is Gums & Resins Distillation Plants. In the product tree, Styrax Benzoin Absolute sits after Frankincense / Olibanum and Myrrh / Opoponax; they are different resins with their own routes and specifications.
