Myrrh / Opoponax Gums & Resins Distillation Plants — Mechotech

Myrrh / Opoponax

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey gums & resins distillation plants for Myrrh / Opoponax. The product tree lists the entry under Gums & Resins Distillation Plants, so the feed is the resin. The plant recovers essential oil from the resin by distillation. The Sureka Life Sciences (SLS) catalogue lists Myrrh Resin Distillation with Commiphora myrrha as the botanical source and sesquiterpenes as the marker class. The catalogue name pairs myrrh with opoponax, and no source states a species for the opoponax part, so the species and the exact resin form are confirmed with the client. The solvent-extraction route for the same resin is on a separate page.

Mechotech’s Myrrh / Opoponax plant is configured around the raw material and the target oil. It is built in SS 316L with integrated condensers and oil–water separation, PLC-based automation and full documentation, and is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. The distillation mode and operating parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Myrrh / opoponax resin is sorted, cleaned of bark and foreign matter and, where required, crushed or granulated so that the charge packs evenly in the still; the resin form and particle size are set during process development.

2

Charging & Distillation

The prepared Myrrh / Opoponax charge is loaded into the SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected during process development for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil.

3

Condensation

Vapours pass through a multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation, condensing the oil and hydrosol.

4

Oil–Water Separation

Condensate is separated in a stainless-steel Florentine flask; the oil is collected and the hydrosol is drawn off and can be recovered as a co-product.

5

Polishing & Drying

The crude oil is polish-filtered and dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate or by vacuum to remove residual moisture.

6

Quality Control

Each batch is sampled for GC-MS profile and physical parameters — specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation — against the client’s specification.

Applications

  • Topical-application products
  • Aromatherapy diffuser use
  • Oral-care gargles and rinses

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

Product-contact surfaces are SS 316L for corrosion resistance and product purity, with CIP capability between batches.

  • Efficient Condensation

Multi-tube condensers with chilled-water circulation condense the volatile oil and hydrosol and limit loss of volatile top-notes.

  • Resin-Charge Distillation

The still is configured for crushed or granulated resin charges, with the distillation mode set during process development.

  • Hydrosol Recovery

Integrated oil–water separation allows the aromatic hydrosol to be drawn off and recovered as a co-product.

  • Scalable Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Myrrh / Opoponax?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Myrrh / Opoponax — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Myrrh / Opoponax plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Myrrh / Opoponax; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and each batch is released with batch-release testing and certificate-of-analysis documentation.
What production capacities are available for the Myrrh / Opoponax plant?
Capacity for the Myrrh / Opoponax plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which end uses are listed for the Myrrh / Opoponax plant?
For this oil, the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue lists topical, diffuser, gargle and rinse uses as application areas.
Which part of Myrrh / Opoponax is processed in the distillation plant?
The product tree lists Myrrh / Opoponax under Gums & Resins Distillation Plants, so the feed is the resin. The exact resin form (for example tears, lumps or granules) and any pre-treatment are confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How is Myrrh / Opoponax oil produced in the plant?
The prepared Myrrh / Opoponax charge is loaded into an SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil. Vapours are condensed in a multi-tube condenser, the oil and hydrosol are separated in a Florentine flask, and the crude oil is polish-filtered and dried before GC-MS and physical-parameter testing.
What is the botanical source and marker compound of Myrrh / Opoponax on this page?
The Sureka Life Sciences catalogue entry for Myrrh Resin Distillation lists Commiphora myrrha as the botanical source and sesquiterpenes (a compound class) as the marker compound. No source names a species for the opoponax part of the catalogue name. The target oil specification is confirmed with the client during process development.
How does this distillation page differ from the Myrrh / Opoponax extraction page?
This page covers distillation of the resin to an essential oil and hydrosol. Myrrh / Opoponax is the separate gum and resin extraction page, and Myrrh Resin Sesquiterpene Oil (CO₂) covers the supercritical CO₂ route. Choose the page that matches the product you intend to make.
Which neighbouring plants does the product tree list with Myrrh / Opoponax?
Mechotech’s product tree lists these plants next to Myrrh / Opoponax: Gurjum, Peru Balsam and Pine sap. The hub is Gums & Resins Distillation Plants.
