Star Anise Seeds Seeds & Berries Distillation Plants — Mechotech

Star Anise Seeds

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey seeds & berries distillation plants for Star Anise Seeds. The product tree lists the entry as Star Anise Seeds, and Mechotech’s legacy page describes distillation of star anise essential oil from the dried seeds of Illicium verum. The Sureka Life Sciences (SLS) catalogue lists Star Anise Seed Distillation with Illicium verum as the botanical source and shikimic acid as the offering grade; no source names a marker for the distilled oil itself, so the target oil specification is confirmed with the client. Star anise is a different raw material from the anise seed page. The exact feed form, whole seed or crushed, is confirmed before the plant is configured.

Mechotech’s Star Anise Seeds plant is configured around the raw material and the target oil. It is built in SS 316L with integrated condensers and oil–water separation, PLC-based automation and full documentation, and is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. The distillation mode and operating parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Star anise seed is cleaned and, where required, coarsely crushed so that steam can reach the oil-bearing tissue and the charge packs evenly in the still; the degree of crushing is set during process development.

2

Charging & Distillation

The prepared Star Anise Seeds charge is loaded into the SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected during process development for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil.

3

Condensation

Vapours pass through a multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation, condensing the oil and hydrosol.

4

Oil–Water Separation

Condensate is separated in a stainless-steel Florentine flask; the oil is collected and the hydrosol is drawn off and can be recovered as a co-product.

5

Polishing & Drying

The crude oil is polish-filtered and dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate or by vacuum to remove residual moisture.

6

Quality Control

Each batch is sampled for GC-MS profile and physical parameters — specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation — against the client’s specification.

Major Plant Equipment

  • Seed cleaning and crushing system
  • Perforated basket or false-bottom charge support
  • SS 316L distillation still / extractor
  • Multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation
  • Stainless-steel Florentine flask (oil–water separator)
  • Polish filtration system
  • Drying unit (anhydrous sodium sulphate or vacuum)
  • CIP system
  • PLC-based automation and instrumentation

Plant Output

Star Anise Seeds essential oilAromatic hydrosol (co-product)

Applications

  • Massage products
  • Aromatherapy and diffusion
  • Skin-care and cosmetic products
  • Pharmaceutical, food and beverage uses (per Mechotech’s legacy page)

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

Product-contact surfaces are SS 316L for corrosion resistance and product purity, with CIP capability between batches.

  • Efficient Condensation

Multi-tube condensers with chilled-water circulation condense the volatile oil and hydrosol and limit loss of volatile top-notes.

  • Configurable Distillation Mode

The still is configured for steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected during process development for the seed or berry charge and the target oil.

  • Hydrosol Recovery

Integrated oil–water separation allows the aromatic hydrosol to be drawn off and recovered as a co-product.

  • Scalable Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Star Anise Seeds?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Star Anise Seeds — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Star Anise Seeds plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Star Anise Seeds; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and batch-release testing with certificate-of-analysis documentation is defined with the client.
What production capacities are available for the Star Anise Seeds plant?
Capacity for the Star Anise Seeds plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which application areas does the catalogue list for the Star Anise Seeds plant?
For this oil, the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue lists massage oil, diffuser, steam inhalation and skin care among its application areas; these are catalogue use areas, not performance claims by Mechotech.
Which part of Star Anise is processed in the distillation plant?
The product tree lists Star Anise Seeds under Seeds & Berries Distillation Plants, and Mechotech’s legacy page describes the dried seeds of Illicium verum. The exact form, whole or crushed, is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How is Star Anise oil produced in the plant?
The prepared Star Anise charge is loaded into an SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil. Vapours are condensed in a multi-tube condenser, the oil and hydrosol are separated in a Florentine flask, and the crude oil is polish-filtered and dried before GC-MS and physical-parameter testing.
What is the botanical source and marker compound of Star Anise on this page?
Mechotech’s legacy page and the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue entry for Star Anise Seed Distillation both name Illicium verum (CAS 8007-70-3 in the catalogue entry). The catalogue lists shikimic acid as the offering grade, which it gives without a percentage and which it does not describe as a marker of the distilled oil; the legacy page names no marker. No percentage is stated here, and the target oil specification is confirmed with the client during process development.
How does Star Anise differ from Anise Seeds?
They are separate entries. Anise Seeds is its own page in the product tree, and star anise (Illicium verum) is a different raw material, so the plant, the oil and the specification differ. Confirm which one is wanted before choosing a page. Other seed oils on Mechotech’s list, under Spices Oils Distillation Plants, include Fennel and Sweet Fennel Essential Oil.
Which neighbouring plants does the product tree list with Star Anise Seeds?
Mechotech’s product tree lists these plants next to Star Anise Seeds: Parsley, Sugandha Kokila and Tomar. The hub is Seeds & Berries Distillation Plants.
