Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Ajwain raw material is cleaned, sorted, and (where required) comminuted to the optimal particle size to maximise oil release during distillation.

2

Charging & Distillation

The prepared Ajwain charge is loaded into the SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro (hydrodistillation), vacuum, or pressure distillation — selected for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil.

3

Condensation

Vapours pass through an efficient multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation, condensing the volatile oil and hydrosol.

4

Oil–Water Separation

Condensate is separated in a stainless-steel Florentine flask; the essential oil is collected while the hydrosol is drawn off (and can be recovered as a co-product).

5

Polishing & Drying

The crude oil is polish-filtered and dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate (or by vacuum) to remove residual moisture.

6

Quality Control

Each batch of Ajwain oil is verified by GC-MS and physical parameters (specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation) before release.

Ajwain Distillation

This botanical is also in the product range of Sureka Life Sciences, our sister concern in botanical ingredients.

Applications

  • Aromatherapy, fragrance, perfumery, and flavour applications
  • Pharmaceutical standardised ingredient supply
  • Nutraceutical capsule, tablet, and supplement manufacturing
  • Food, flavour, and beverage applications
  • Cosmetic and personal care active ingredients
  • Ayurvedic and traditional medicine preparations
  • Export to regulated-market ingredient buyers

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

All product-contact surfaces are SS 316L for corrosion resistance and product purity, with CIP capability between batches.

  • Efficient Condensation

High-surface-area multi-tube condensers with chilled-water circulation maximise oil recovery and minimise losses of volatile top-notes.

  • Distillation Still / Extractor

The still (extractor) is configured for the distillation mode best suited to the feedstock, protecting heat-sensitive aroma compounds.

  • Hydrosol Recovery

Integrated separation allows recovery of the aromatic hydrosol as a co-product.

  • Scalable Capacity

Plants are configured from pilot to commercial scale with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Ajwain?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Ajwain — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed, and commissioned as a single integrated system.
What specification can the Ajwain plant achieve?
The plant is engineered to reach the client's target specification for Ajwain, confirmed by batch-release testing with full certificate-of-analysis documentation.
What production capacities are available for the Ajwain plant?
Mechotech builds Ajwain plants from pilot systems for product development to commercial-scale plants. Capacity is selected from raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume, and investment timeline; we recommend a pilot plant to validate parameters before scaling.
Which industries use the Ajwain plant?
Pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food and flavour, cosmetic, and fragrance manufacturers use Mechotech plants for consistent, compliant production.
How is Ajwain essential oil produced in Mechotech's distillation plant?
The Ajwain charge is cleaned and sorted, loaded into an SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation chosen for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the oil. Vapours are condensed in a multi-tube condenser, the oil is separated from the hydrosol in a Florentine flask, then polish-filtered, dried and released after GC-MS and physical-parameter testing. The line sits within Mechotech's Spices Oils Distillation Plants range.
How does this Ajwain essential-oil plant differ from Mechotech's Ajwain oleoresin plant?
This page covers distillation of Ajwain into essential oil and hydrosol. The Ajwain oleoresin extraction plant is a separate solvent-extraction line (food-grade alcohol / aqueous solvent, with solvent recovery and drying) that produces a standardised extract.
What is Ajwain and what is its botanical source?
Ajwain is sourced from Trachyspermum ammi. Thymol is among its principal documented constituents. Mechotech configures the plant to the buyer's target specification, confirmed by batch-release testing, rather than to a fixed percentage.
Has Mechotech delivered a distillation plant on a similar feedstock to Ajwain?
Yes, on a related feedstock. Mechotech's delivered Cardamom Essential Oil Distillation Plant runs the same steam-distillation route — cleaning, steam distillation, condensation, oil–water separation and oil filtration — on a spice-seed feedstock. Process parameters for Ajwain are established during process development and pilot validation.
Does Mechotech list other pages for the same raw material?
Yes. This page covers spices oils distillation plants for Ajwain. Related catalogue pages: Ajwain — Spices Oleoresin Extraction Plants.
