Cinnamon Spices Oils Distillation Plants — Mechotech

Cinnamon

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey spices oils distillation plants for Cinnamon Bark. Cinnamon bark oil is dominated by cinnamaldehyde (typically 65–80%), the premium-priced, sweet-spicy marker compound used in fine flavour, fragrance, and food applications. We supply the complete machinery to process Cinnamon bark into an essential oil configured to the client’s target specification for the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food, and fragrance industries.

Mechotech's Cinnamon plant is configured around the specific chemistry and processing requirements of Cinnamon bark oil. Because cinnamaldehyde-rich bark oil is denser than water — settling below the hydrosol, unlike most essential oils — the Florentine flask separation stage is configured accordingly. Built in SS 316L with integrated condensers and oil-water separation, automation, and full documentation, each plant is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. Cinnamon bark is a dense, rolled bark, so the line is built around size reduction so that steam reaches the oil-bearing tissue; cinnamaldehyde is the marker for the bark oil, whereas the leaf oil is eugenol-dominant and sits on a separate page.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Cinnamon bark is cleaned and ground or crushed to rupture the oil-bearing cells and open channels for steam, since intact bark distils slowly and incompletely (per Mechotech’s cinnamon distillation article); the particle size is set during process development.

2

Charging & Distillation

The prepared Cinnamon charge is loaded into the SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum, or pressure distillation — selected for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil.

3

Condensation

Vapours pass through an efficient multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation, condensing the volatile oil and hydrosol.

4

Oil–Water Separation

Condensate is separated in a stainless-steel Florentine flask; the essential oil is collected while the hydrosol is drawn off (and can be recovered as a co-product).

5

Polishing & Drying

The crude oil is polish-filtered and dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate (or by vacuum) to remove residual moisture.

6

Quality Control

Each batch of Cinnamon oil is verified by GC-MS and physical parameters (specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation) before release.

Applications

  • Pharmaceutical standardised ingredient supply
  • Nutraceutical capsule, tablet, and supplement manufacturing
  • Food, flavour, and beverage applications
  • Cosmetic and personal care active ingredients
  • Ayurvedic and traditional medicine preparations
  • Export to regulated-market ingredient buyers

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

All product-contact surfaces are SS 316L for corrosion resistance and product purity, with CIP capability between batches.

  • Efficient Condensation

High-surface-area multi-tube condensers with chilled-water circulation condense the volatile oil and hydrosol.

  • Steam / Hydro / Vacuum / Pressure

The still is configured for the distillation mode best suited to the feedstock, protecting heat-sensitive aroma compounds.

  • Hydrosol Recovery

Integrated separation allows the aromatic hydrosol to be recovered as a co-product.

  • Scalable Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Cinnamon?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Cinnamon — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Cinnamon plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Cinnamon. The specification that can be achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and each batch is released with batch-release testing and certificate-of-analysis documentation.
What production capacities are available for the Cinnamon plant?
Capacity for the Cinnamon plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which industries use the Cinnamon plant?
The end-use areas listed for Cinnamon on this page are given under Applications. The end use and the target specification are confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
What is the difference between cinnamon bark oil and cinnamon leaf oil?
Cinnamon bark oil is dominated by cinnamaldehyde (typically 65–80%), giving the warm, sweet-spicy aroma and antimicrobial activity that make it the premium product for fine flavour, fragrance, and food use. Cinnamon leaf oil is dominated instead by eugenol (typically 70–90%), giving a warmer, more clove-like character; it is more abundant and lower-priced. This page covers bark oil — see our Cinnamon leaf distillation plant page if leaf oil is your target.
Which part of Cinnamon is processed in the distillation plant?
The catalogue lists Cinnamon as bark. The exact feed form is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How is Cinnamon oil produced in the plant?
The prepared Cinnamon charge is loaded into an SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil. Vapours are condensed in a multi-tube condenser, the oil and hydrosol are separated in a Florentine flask, and the crude oil is polish-filtered and dried before quality control.
Does Mechotech list other routes or related plants for Cinnamon?
Cinnamon leaf oil has its own page (Cinnamon — Leaves); cinnamon bark is also listed as Cinnamon Bark Oil (CO2), Cinnamon Bark Extract and Cassia / Cinnamon oleoresin. This page covers steam distillation of cinnamon bark oil.
Has Mechotech delivered a cinnamon bark distillation plant?
Yes. The Cinnamon Essential Oil Distillation Plant case study describes a steam-distillation line for cinnamon bark and leaf with size reduction, shell-and-tube condensation, Florentine oil separation and vacuum polishing. The leaf route is on Cinnamon (Leaves).
