Cumin — Seed

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey spices oils distillation plants for Cumin (Cuminum cyminum). We supply the complete machinery to process Cumin (seed) into an essential oil configured to the client’s target specification. The catalogue describes cumin seed oil as characterised by cuminaldehyde (25–40%), with p-cymene and γ-terpinene giving its warm, earthy aroma.

Mechotech’s Cumin distillation plant is configured around the raw material and the target oil. It is built in SS 316L with integrated condensers and oil–water separation, PLC-based automation and full documentation, and is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. The distillation mode is selected during process development.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Cumin raw material is cleaned, sorted, and (where required) comminuted to the optimal particle size to maximise oil release during distillation.

2

Charging & Distillation

The prepared Cumin charge is loaded into the SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro (hydrodistillation), vacuum, or pressure distillation — selected for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil.

3

Condensation

Vapours pass through an efficient multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation, condensing the volatile oil and hydrosol.

4

Oil–Water Separation

Condensate is separated in a stainless-steel Florentine flask; the essential oil is collected while the hydrosol is drawn off (and can be recovered as a co-product).

5

Polishing & Drying

The crude oil is polish-filtered and dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate (or by vacuum) to remove residual moisture.

6

Quality Control

Each batch of Cumin oil is verified by GC-MS and physical parameters (specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation) before release.

Major Plant Equipment

  • Raw material cleaning and sorting system
  • Size-reduction unit (where required)
  • SS 316L jacketed distillation still with perforated false bottom
  • Shell-and-tube condenser
  • Stainless-steel Florentine flask (oil–water separator)
  • Polish filtration system
  • Drying unit (anhydrous sodium sulphate or vacuum)
  • CIP system

Plant Output

Cumin essential oilAromatic hydrosol (co-product)

Applications

  • Food flavouring — cumin-flavoured spice blends, seasoning powders, meat products, and snack foods
  • Processed food industry — canned and packaged food flavouring at consistent quality and intensity
  • Pharmaceutical digestives — carminative formulations for flatulence and digestive disorders
  • Fragrance industry — warm, earthy note in oriental, woody, and masculine perfume compositions
  • Meat processing — cumin oil in sausage, kebab, and meat seasoning blends

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

All product-contact surfaces are SS 316L for corrosion resistance and product purity, with CIP capability between batches.

  • Efficient Condensation

High-surface-area multi-tube condensers with chilled-water circulation condense the volatile oil and hydrosol.

  • Distillation Still / Extraction Equipment

The still — the core extraction equipment — is configured for the distillation mode best suited to the feedstock, protecting heat-sensitive aroma compounds.

  • Hydrosol Recovery

Integrated separation allows the aromatic hydrosol to be recovered as a co-product.

  • Scalable Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Cumin?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Cumin — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Cumin plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Cumin; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and each batch is released with batch-release testing and certificate-of-analysis documentation.
What production capacities are available for the Cumin plant?
Mechotech builds Cumin plants from pilot systems for product development to commercial-scale plants. Capacity is selected from raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume, and investment timeline; we recommend a pilot plant to validate parameters before scaling.
Which industries use the Cumin plant?
Pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food and flavour, cosmetic, and fragrance manufacturers use Mechotech plants for consistent, compliant production.
Who supplies cumin oil extraction plants and equipment?
Mechotech is a cumin oil extraction plant manufacturer and equipment supplier, engineering and fabricating the complete distillation line — still, condenser, Florentine separator, and drying — at our Hyderabad facility for buyers in India and export markets.
Which part of Cumin is processed in the distillation plant?
The catalogue lists Cumin as seed. The exact feed form is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How is Cumin oil produced in the plant?
The prepared Cumin charge is loaded into an SS 316L jacketed still with a perforated false bottom and distilled by steam, with controlled steam injection (catalogue range 0.5–1.5 bar). Vapours are condensed in a shell-and-tube condenser, the oil and hydrosol are separated by gravity in a Florentine flask, and the crude oil is polish-filtered and dried before quality control.
What is Cumin oil and what does the catalogue say it contains?
The catalogue lists cumin seed oil from Cuminum cyminum as characterised by cuminaldehyde (25–40%), p-cymene (15–30%) and γ-terpinene (15–25%), with β-pinene as a secondary constituent.
Does Mechotech list other routes or related plants for Cumin?
Yes. This page covers steam distillation of cumin seed oil. Cumin is also listed as an oleoresin extraction plant (Cumin Oleoresin) and as a CO2 oil plant (Cumin Oil (CO2)). Black cumin (Nigella sativa) is a different seed with its own page (Black Cumin Extract).
Which related Mechotech plants are listed with this one?
Related catalogue pages: Dill.
