Coriander — Seed

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey spices oils distillation plants for Coriander (Coriandrum sativum). We supply the complete machinery to process Coriander (seed) into an essential oil configured to the client’s target specification. The catalogue describes coriander seed oil as dominated by linalool (60–80%), a sweet, floral, slightly spicy alcohol used widely as an aroma chemical.

Mechotech’s Coriander distillation plant is configured around the raw material and the target oil. It is built in SS 316L with integrated condensers and oil–water separation, PLC-based automation and full documentation, and is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. The distillation mode is selected during process development.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Coriander raw material is cleaned, sorted, and (where required) comminuted to the optimal particle size to maximise oil release during distillation.

2

Charging & Distillation

The prepared Coriander charge is loaded into the SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro (hydrodistillation), vacuum, or pressure distillation — selected for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil.

3

Condensation

Vapours pass through an efficient multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation, condensing the volatile oil and hydrosol.

4

Oil–Water Separation

Condensate is separated in a stainless-steel Florentine flask; the essential oil is collected while the hydrosol is drawn off (and can be recovered as a co-product).

5

Polishing & Drying

The crude oil is polish-filtered and dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate (or by vacuum) to remove residual moisture.

6

Quality Control

Each batch of Coriander oil is verified by GC-MS and physical parameters (specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation) before release.

From Plant to Product

Coriander Distillation

This botanical is also in the product range of Sureka Life Sciences, our sister concern in botanical ingredients.

Applications

  • Fragrance industry — floral, woody linalool note in soaps, shampoos, cosmetics, and fine perfumery
  • Food flavouring — gin botanicals, liqueurs, seasoning blends, and meat products
  • Aromatherapy — calming, stress-relief diffusion blends and massage oil formulations
  • Beverage industry — flavouring for herbal teas, health drinks, and craft spirits
  • Pharmaceutical — flavouring and aromatic component in oral pharmaceutical preparations

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

All product-contact surfaces are SS 316L for corrosion resistance and product purity, with CIP capability between batches.

  • Efficient Condensation

High-surface-area multi-tube condensers with chilled-water circulation condense the volatile oil and hydrosol.

  • Distillation Still / Extractor

The still (extractor) is configured for the distillation mode best suited to the feedstock, protecting heat-sensitive aroma compounds.

  • Hydrosol Recovery

Integrated separation allows the aromatic hydrosol to be recovered as a co-product.

  • Scalable Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Coriander?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Coriander — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Coriander plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Coriander; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and each batch is released with batch-release testing and certificate-of-analysis documentation.
What production capacities are available for the Coriander plant?
Mechotech builds Coriander plants from pilot systems for product development to commercial-scale plants. Capacity is selected from raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume, and investment timeline; we recommend a pilot plant to validate parameters before scaling.
Which industries use the Coriander plant?
Pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food and flavour, cosmetic, and fragrance manufacturers use Mechotech plants for consistent, compliant production.
Which part of Coriander is processed in the distillation plant?
The catalogue lists Coriander as seed. The exact feed form is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How is Coriander oil produced in the plant?
The prepared Coriander charge is loaded into an SS 316L jacketed still with a perforated false bottom and distilled by steam, with controlled steam injection (catalogue range 0.5–1.5 bar). Vapours are condensed in a shell-and-tube condenser, the oil and hydrosol are separated by gravity in a Florentine flask, and the crude oil is polish-filtered and dried before quality control.
What is Coriander oil and what does the catalogue say it contains?
The catalogue lists coriander seed oil from Coriandrum sativum as dominated by linalool (60–80%), with camphor (3–8%), geraniol (1–5%) and α-terpineol as secondary constituents.
Does Mechotech list other routes or related plants for Coriander?
Yes. This page covers steam distillation of coriander seed oil. Coriander seed is also listed as a CO2 oil plant (Coriander Seed Oil (CO2)) and as an oleoresin extraction plant (Coriander Oleoresin), and coriander leaves have their own distillation page (Cilantro / Kothimeera).
Which related Mechotech plants are listed with this one?
Related catalogue pages: Dill.
