Nutmeg Spices Oils Distillation Plants — Mechotech

Nutmeg

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey spice oil distillation plants for Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans). Mechotech’s legacy Nutmeg Oil Distillation page describes the essential oil as steam-distilled from the dried kernel (seed) of the nutmeg fruit, de-shelled and not mace. The Sureka Life Sciences (SLS) catalogue lists Nutmeg Distillation with Myristica fragrans Houtt as the botanical source and myristicin as the marker compound. Nutmeg oleoresin, mace oil and mace CO₂ are separate pages. The exact kernel form is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.

Mechotech’s Nutmeg plant is configured around the raw material and the target oil. It is built in SS 316L with integrated condensers and oil–water separation, PLC-based automation and full documentation, and is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. The distillation mode and operating parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Dried nutmeg kernels are cleaned and, where required, crushed or ground so that steam reaches the oil-bearing tissue; the feed form and particle size are set during process development.

2

Charging & Distillation

The prepared Nutmeg charge is loaded into the SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected during process development for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil.

3

Condensation

Vapours pass through a multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation, condensing the oil and hydrosol.

4

Oil–Water Separation

Condensate is separated in a stainless-steel Florentine flask; the oil is collected and the hydrosol is drawn off and can be recovered as a co-product.

5

Polishing & Drying

The crude oil is polish-filtered and dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate or by vacuum to remove residual moisture.

6

Quality Control

Each batch is sampled for GC-MS profile and physical parameters — specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation — against the client’s specification.

Nutmeg Distillation

This botanical is also in the product range of Sureka Life Sciences, our sister concern in botanical ingredients.

Applications

  • Massage and aromatherapy products
  • Skin-care formulations
  • Oral-hygiene products
  • Food flavouring (per the legacy listing)
  • Fragrance (per the legacy listing)

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

Product-contact surfaces are SS 316L for corrosion resistance and product purity, with CIP capability between batches.

  • Efficient Condensation

Multi-tube condensers with chilled-water circulation condense the volatile oil and hydrosol and limit loss of volatile top-notes.

  • Kernel-Charge Distillation

The still is configured for crushed or ground kernel charges, with the distillation mode set during process development.

  • Hydrosol Recovery

Integrated oil–water separation allows the aromatic hydrosol to be drawn off and recovered as a co-product.

  • Scalable Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Nutmeg?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Nutmeg — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Nutmeg plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Nutmeg; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and each batch is released with batch-release testing and certificate-of-analysis documentation.
What production capacities are available for the Nutmeg plant?
Capacity for the Nutmeg plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which end uses are listed for the Nutmeg plant?
For this oil, the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue lists massage, aromatherapy, skincare formulations and oral hygiene as application areas.
Which part of Nutmeg is processed in the distillation plant?
Mechotech’s legacy Nutmeg Oil Distillation page describes the dried kernel (seed) of the nutmeg fruit, de-shelled and not mace. The exact feed form, such as whole, cracked or ground kernel, is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How is Nutmeg oil produced in the plant?
The prepared Nutmeg charge is loaded into an SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil. Vapours are condensed in a multi-tube condenser, the oil and hydrosol are separated in a Florentine flask, and the crude oil is polish-filtered and dried before GC-MS and physical-parameter testing.
What is the botanical source and marker compound of Nutmeg on this page?
The Sureka Life Sciences catalogue entry for Nutmeg Distillation lists Myristica fragrans Houtt as the botanical source and myristicin as the marker compound. Mechotech’s legacy page also lists typical constituent ranges for nutmeg oil (sabinene 15–30%, α-pinene 15–20%, β-pinene 12–18%, myristicin 3–8%); these are listing ranges, not a guaranteed specification. The target oil specification is confirmed with the client during process development.
How does this Nutmeg page differ from the Nutmeg, Mace and CO₂ pages?
This page covers distillation of the dried nutmeg kernel to an essential oil. Nutmeg is the separate oleoresin (solvent-extraction) page, Mace covers distillation of the mace aril, and Mace Aril Oleoresin (CO₂) covers the CO₂ route for mace. Choose the page that matches the plant part and product.
Is there an article on nutmeg distillation?
Yes. Mechotech’s article Nutmeg Distillation and Extraction Plants describes the distillation and extraction routes for nutmeg. Process parameters for a specific plant are still established during process development and pilot validation.
Where is Nutmeg listed in the product tree?
Mechotech’s product tree lists Nutmeg under oleoresin extraction and under seeds and berries extraction; this distillation page is a separate catalogue entry that follows Mechotech’s legacy Nutmeg Oil Distillation page. The hub is Spices Oils Distillation Plants.
