Mace Roots / Husk Distillation Plants — Mechotech

Mace

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey roots / husk distillation plants for Mace (Myristica fragrans). We supply the complete machinery to process dried mace husk — the aril of the nutmeg seed — into an essential oil configured to the client’s target specification. The product tree lists the entry as “Mace (Husk)”, and the legacy Mace page describes the dried aril (mace husk) of nutmeg seeds. Nutmeg kernel oil and nutmeg oleoresin are covered on separate pages.

Mechotech’s Mace distillation plant is configured around the raw material and the target oil. It is built in SS 316L with integrated condensers and oil–water separation, PLC-based automation and full documentation, and is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. The legacy listing describes steam distillation of the mace aril; the distillation mode and operating parameters are established during process development and pilot validation. Myristicin is the listed marker compound.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Dried mace husk (the aril of the nutmeg seed) is cleaned of foreign matter and, where required, reduced in size so that steam reaches the oil-bearing material evenly; the feed form is set during process development.

2

Charging & Distillation

The prepared Mace charge is loaded into the SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected during process development for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil.

3

Condensation

Vapours pass through a multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation, condensing the oil and hydrosol.

4

Oil–Water Separation

Condensate is separated in a stainless-steel Florentine flask; the oil is collected and the hydrosol is drawn off and can be recovered as a co-product.

5

Polishing & Drying

The crude oil is polish-filtered and dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate or by vacuum to remove residual moisture.

6

Quality Control

Each batch is sampled for GC-MS profile and physical parameters — specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation — against the client’s specification.

Plant Output

Mace essential oilAromatic hydrosol (co-product)

Applications

  • Aromatherapy and wellness product formulations
  • Natural perfumery and fine fragrance compositions
  • Cosmetics and personal care — moisturisers, serums, shampoos
  • Pharmaceutical topical formulations and liniments
  • Food flavouring and beverage applications (food-grade, where permitted)

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

Product-contact surfaces are SS 316L for corrosion resistance and product purity, with CIP capability between batches.

  • Efficient Condensation

Multi-tube condensers with chilled-water circulation condense the volatile oil and hydrosol and limit loss of volatile top-notes.

  • Husk-Charge Distillation

The still is configured for the dried mace husk charge, with the distillation mode set during process development.

  • Hydrosol Recovery

Integrated oil–water separation allows the aromatic hydrosol to be drawn off and recovered as a co-product.

  • Scalable Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Mace?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Mace — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Mace plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Mace; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and each batch is released with batch-release testing and certificate-of-analysis documentation.
What production capacities are available for the Mace plant?
Capacity for the Mace plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which industries does the legacy catalogue list for the Mace plant?
The legacy Mace listing names aromatherapy and wellness product formulations, natural perfumery and fine fragrance, cosmetics and personal care, pharmaceutical topical formulations, food flavouring and beverage use where food-grade is permitted, spa and massage oil products, natural air fresheners and home fragrance, and insect-repellent and household cleaning formulations. The end use and the target specification are confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
Which part of mace is processed in the distillation plant?
Mace is the aril — the lacy covering around the nutmeg seed. The product tree lists the entry as “Mace (Husk)” under Roots / Husk Distillation Plants, and the legacy Mace page describes the dried aril (mace husk) of nutmeg seeds of Myristica fragrans. The exact form (whole or broken aril, and any size reduction) is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How is Mace oil produced in the plant?
The prepared dried mace husk charge is loaded into an SS 316L still and distilled; the legacy listing describes steam distillation, and steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure modes are evaluated during process development. Vapours are condensed in a multi-tube condenser, the oil and hydrosol are separated in a Florentine flask, and the crude oil is polish-filtered and dried before GC-MS and physical-parameter testing. The line sits within Mechotech’s Roots / Husk Distillation Plants range.
Which botanical and marker does the catalogue list for Mace oil?
The Sureka Life Sciences catalogue lists Mace Distillation (Roots & Husk Distillation Plants) as sourced from Myristica fragrans, with myristicin as the marker compound and use areas under digestive support, pain relief and inflammation, aromatherapy and mental wellness, skin health and wound care, and oral care and immunity. These are catalogue use areas, not performance claims by Mechotech. The level achievable for a given husk supply is established during process development, and the specification is agreed with the buyer.
How does this Mace page differ from Mechotech’s Nutmeg pages?
Mace and nutmeg come from the same fruit but are different raw materials. This page covers distillation of the dried mace husk (aril). Nutmeg covers nutmeg essential-oil distillation, which the legacy Nutmeg oil page describes as distilled from the dried kernel (seed), not mace. Nutmeg Oleoresin covers the solvent-extraction route for the nutmeg kernel, and Mace Aril Oleoresin (CO₂) covers the supercritical CO₂ route for mace aril. Choose the page that matches the plant part and the product you intend to make.
Can one plant distil both mace and nutmeg?
Mechotech’s legacy Nutmeg Oil Distillation page states that mace can be distilled on the same equipment with minor adjustments to the loading configuration, with a clean-in-place procedure between batches. Whether one plant serves both raw materials is decided per project, because the feed forms, the oils and the target specifications differ.
Which other root and husk distillation plants does Mechotech list next to Mace?
In the product tree, Mace (Husk) sits between Kapoor Kachri and NagarMotha. The same category also lists Angelica, Costus Root, Iris / Orris, Vetiver and others; see the Roots / Husk Distillation Plants range for the full list.
