Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Arnica raw material is cleaned, sorted, and (where required) comminuted to the optimal particle size to maximise oil release during distillation.

2

Charging & Distillation

The prepared Arnica charge is loaded into the SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro (hydrodistillation), vacuum, or pressure distillation — selected for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil.

3

Condensation

Vapours pass through an efficient multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation, condensing the volatile oil and hydrosol.

4

Oil–Water Separation

Condensate is separated in a stainless-steel Florentine flask; the essential oil is collected while the hydrosol is drawn off (and can be recovered as a co-product).

5

Polishing & Drying

The crude oil is polish-filtered and dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate (or by vacuum) to remove residual moisture.

6

Quality Control

Each batch of Arnica oil is verified by GC-MS and physical parameters (specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation) before release.

Plant Output

Arnica essential oilArnica hydrosol (aromatic water co-product)

Applications

  • Aromatherapy, fragrance, perfumery, and flavour applications
  • Pharmaceutical standardised ingredient supply
  • Nutraceutical capsule, tablet, and supplement manufacturing
  • Food, flavour, and beverage applications
  • Cosmetic and personal care active ingredients
  • Ayurvedic and traditional medicine preparations

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

All product-contact surfaces are SS 316L for corrosion resistance and product purity, with CIP capability between batches.

  • Efficient Condensation

High-surface-area multi-tube condensers with chilled-water circulation maximise oil recovery and minimise losses of volatile top-notes.

  • Distillation Still / Extractor

The still (extractor) is configured for the distillation mode best suited to the feedstock, protecting heat-sensitive aroma compounds.

  • Hydrosol Recovery

Integrated separation allows recovery of the aromatic hydrosol as a co-product.

  • Scalable Capacity

Plants are configured from pilot to commercial scale with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Arnica?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Arnica — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed, and commissioned as a single integrated system.
What specification can the Arnica plant achieve?
The plant is engineered to reach the client's target specification for Arnica, confirmed by batch-release testing with full certificate-of-analysis documentation.
What production capacities are available for the Arnica plant?
Mechotech builds Arnica plants from pilot systems for product development to commercial-scale plants. Capacity is selected from raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume, and investment timeline; we recommend a pilot plant to validate parameters before scaling.
Which industries use the Arnica plant?
Pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food and flavour, cosmetic, and fragrance manufacturers use Mechotech plants for consistent, compliant production.
How is Arnica essential oil produced in Mechotech's distillation plant?
The Arnica charge is cleaned and sorted, loaded into an SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation chosen for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the oil. Vapours are condensed in a multi-tube condenser, the oil is separated from the hydrosol in a Florentine flask, then polish-filtered, dried and released after GC-MS and physical-parameter testing. The line sits within Mechotech's Roots / Husk Distillation Plants range.
Is this the same plant as the Arnica flower distillation plant?
No. This page is the Arnica root distillation plant, listed under Roots / Husk Distillation Plants. The Arnica flower distillation plant is listed under Flower & Buds Oils Distillation Plants for flower feedstock.
What is Arnica and what is its botanical source?
Arnica is sourced from Arnica montana. The plant part listed for this line is root. Mechotech configures the plant to the buyer's target specification, confirmed by batch-release testing, rather than to a fixed percentage.
Has Mechotech delivered a distillation plant on a similar feedstock to Arnica?
Yes, on a related feedstock. Mechotech's delivered Vetiver Essential Oil Distillation Plant runs the same steam-distillation route — root washing and cutting, hydro-steam distillation, condensation, Florentine oil separation, filtration and vacuum polishing — on a root feedstock. Process parameters for Arnica are established during process development and pilot validation.
Does Mechotech list other pages for the same raw material?
Yes. This page covers roots / husk distillation plants for Arnica. Related catalogue pages: Arnica — Flower & Buds Oils Distillation Plants.
