Zeodary Roots / Husk Distillation Plants — Mechotech

Zeodary

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey roots / husk distillation plants for Zeodary (the catalogue spelling of zedoary). The product tree lists the entry under Roots / Husk Distillation Plants, and Mechotech’s legacy page for the Zeodary Oil Distillation Plant describes steam distillation of zeodary essential oil from the rhizomes of Curcuma zedoaria, called white turmeric. The Sureka Life Sciences (SLS) catalogue lists Zeodary Distillation with Curcuma zedoaria as the botanical source and curcumol as the offering grade. Zeodary is a different raw material from turmeric. The exact rhizome form, fresh or dried, is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.

Mechotech’s Zeodary plant is configured around the raw material and the target oil. It is built in SS 316L with integrated condensers and oil–water separation, PLC-based automation and full documentation, and is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. The distillation mode and operating parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Zeodary roots and rhizomes are cleaned of soil and cut or crushed, as agreed with the client, so that the charge packs evenly in the still and steam can reach the root tissue; the particle size and whether the material is fresh or dried are set during process development.

2

Charging & Distillation

The prepared Zeodary charge is loaded into the SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected during process development for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil.

3

Condensation

Vapours pass through a multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation, condensing the oil and hydrosol.

4

Oil–Water Separation

Condensate is separated in a stainless-steel Florentine flask; the oil is collected and the hydrosol is drawn off and can be recovered as a co-product.

5

Polishing & Drying

The crude oil is polish-filtered and dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate or by vacuum to remove residual moisture.

6

Quality Control

Each batch is sampled for GC-MS profile and physical parameters — specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation — against the client’s specification.

Major Plant Equipment

  • Root washing, cutting and size-reduction system
  • Perforated basket or false-bottom charge support
  • SS 316L distillation still / extractor
  • Multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation
  • Stainless-steel Florentine flask (oil–water separator)
  • Polish filtration system
  • Drying unit (anhydrous sodium sulphate or vacuum)
  • CIP system
  • PLC-based automation and instrumentation

Plant Output

Zeodary essential oilAromatic hydrosol (co-product)

Applications

  • Pharmaceutical and Ayurvedic uses (per Mechotech’s legacy page)
  • Cosmetic and skin-care products
  • Aromatherapy and perfumery applications
  • Insect-repellent and oral-care formulations (catalogue use areas)

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

Product-contact surfaces are SS 316L for corrosion resistance and product purity, with CIP capability between batches.

  • Efficient Condensation

Multi-tube condensers with chilled-water circulation condense the volatile oil and hydrosol and limit loss of volatile top-notes.

  • Configurable Distillation Mode

The still is configured for steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected during process development for the dense root feedstock and the target oil.

  • Hydrosol Recovery

Integrated oil–water separation allows the aromatic hydrosol to be drawn off and recovered as a co-product.

  • Scalable Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Zeodary?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Zeodary — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Zeodary plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Zeodary; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and batch-release testing with certificate-of-analysis documentation is defined with the client.
What production capacities are available for the Zeodary plant?
Capacity for the Zeodary plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which end uses are listed for the Zeodary plant?
For this oil, the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue lists pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and skincare, aromatherapy, insect repellent and oral care among its application areas; these are catalogue use areas, not performance claims by Mechotech.
Which part of Zeodary is processed in the distillation plant?
The product tree lists Zeodary under Roots / Husk Distillation Plants, and Mechotech’s legacy page describes the rhizomes of Curcuma zedoaria. The exact form, fresh or dried, sliced or crushed, is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How is Zeodary oil produced in the plant?
The prepared Zeodary charge is loaded into an SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil. Vapours are condensed in a multi-tube condenser, the oil and hydrosol are separated in a Florentine flask, and the crude oil is polish-filtered and dried before GC-MS and physical-parameter testing.
What is the botanical source and marker compound of Zeodary on this page?
Mechotech’s legacy page and the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue entry for Zeodary Distillation both name Curcuma zedoaria; the catalogue lists curcumol as the marker compound (CAS 84961-49-9 in that entry) and gives no percentage for the offering grade, so none is stated here. The target oil specification is confirmed with the client during process development.
Is zeodary the same as turmeric?
No. Zeodary is Curcuma zedoaria, called white turmeric on Mechotech’s legacy page, whereas turmeric is Curcuma longa. Mechotech’s turmeric pages are separate: Turmeric (spice-oil distillation), Turmeric (leaf oil), Turmeric Oil (CO2) and Curcumin. The plant, the marker and the oil differ, so confirm which one is wanted.
Which neighbouring plants does the product tree list with Zeodary?
Mechotech’s product tree lists Zeodary last in its group, after Vetiver and Valerian. The hub is Roots / Husk Distillation Plants.
