Valerian Roots / Husk Distillation Plants — Mechotech

Valerian

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey roots / husk distillation plants for Valerian. The product tree lists the entry under Roots / Husk Distillation Plants, and Mechotech’s legacy page for the Valerian Root Oil Distillation Plant describes steam distillation of valerian essential oil from the roots of Valeriana officinalis. The Sureka Life Sciences (SLS) catalogue lists Valerian Distillation with Valeriana officinalis L as the botanical source and valerenic acid as the offering grade. Mechotech also lists a Valerian root extract page and a separate Vellarian entry, covered below. The exact root form, fresh or dried, is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.

Mechotech’s Valerian plant is configured around the raw material and the target oil. It is built in SS 316L with integrated condensers and oil–water separation, PLC-based automation and full documentation, and is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. The distillation mode and operating parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Valerian roots and rhizomes are cleaned of soil and cut or crushed, as agreed with the client, so that the charge packs evenly in the still and steam can reach the root tissue; the particle size and whether the material is fresh or dried are set during process development.

2

Charging & Distillation

The prepared Valerian charge is loaded into the SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected during process development for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil.

3

Condensation

Vapours pass through a multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation, condensing the oil and hydrosol.

4

Oil–Water Separation

Condensate is separated in a stainless-steel Florentine flask; the oil is collected and the hydrosol is drawn off and can be recovered as a co-product.

5

Polishing & Drying

The crude oil is polish-filtered and dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate or by vacuum to remove residual moisture.

6

Quality Control

Each batch is sampled for GC-MS profile and physical parameters — specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation — against the client’s specification.

Major Plant Equipment

  • Root washing, cutting and size-reduction system
  • Perforated basket or false-bottom charge support
  • SS 316L distillation still / extractor
  • Multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation
  • Stainless-steel Florentine flask (oil–water separator)
  • Polish filtration system
  • Drying unit (anhydrous sodium sulphate or vacuum)
  • CIP system
  • PLC-based automation and instrumentation

Plant Output

Valerian essential oilAromatic hydrosol (co-product)

Applications

  • Aromatherapy and wellness applications, to be defined with the client
  • Pharmaceutical and Ayurvedic uses (per Mechotech’s legacy page)
  • Cosmetic and personal-care products, to be defined with the client

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

Product-contact surfaces are SS 316L for corrosion resistance and product purity, with CIP capability between batches.

  • Efficient Condensation

Multi-tube condensers with chilled-water circulation condense the volatile oil and hydrosol and limit loss of volatile top-notes.

  • Configurable Distillation Mode

The still is configured for steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected during process development for the dense root feedstock and the target oil.

  • Hydrosol Recovery

Integrated oil–water separation allows the aromatic hydrosol to be drawn off and recovered as a co-product.

  • Scalable Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Valerian?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Valerian — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Valerian plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Valerian; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and batch-release testing with certificate-of-analysis documentation is defined with the client.
What production capacities are available for the Valerian plant?
Capacity for the Valerian plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which end uses are listed for the Valerian plant?
For this oil, the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue lists sleep disorders, anxiety management, neurological protection and mental health, anticonvulsant properties, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant uses, and gastrointestinal relief among its application areas; these are catalogue use areas, not performance claims by Mechotech.
Which part of Valerian is processed in the distillation plant?
The product tree lists Valerian under Roots / Husk Distillation Plants, and Mechotech’s legacy page describes the roots of Valeriana officinalis. The exact form, fresh or dried, cut or crushed, is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How is Valerian oil produced in the plant?
The prepared Valerian charge is loaded into an SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil. Vapours are condensed in a multi-tube condenser, the oil and hydrosol are separated in a Florentine flask, and the crude oil is polish-filtered and dried before GC-MS and physical-parameter testing.
What is the botanical source and marker compound of Valerian on this page?
Mechotech’s legacy page and the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue entry for Valerian Distillation both name Valeriana officinalis; the catalogue lists valerenic acid as the marker compound and gives no percentage for the offering grade, so none is stated here. The target oil specification is confirmed with the client during process development.
Why is the catalogue CAS number not used here?
The Sureka Life Sciences catalogue gives CAS 8008-88-6 for its Valerian Distillation entry and also for its Sugandha Bala, Sugandha Kokila and Sugandha Mantri distillation entries, which are different plants. The sources do not explain the overlap, so no CAS number is stated on this page.
How does Valerian differ from the other valerian pages?
Valeriana Officinalis Extract is the herbal extraction product listed at 0.8% valerenic acids by HPLC, and Vellarian is a separate extract entry listed at 5% ‘Valoprotaloides’, which may refer to valepotriates. Sugandha Bala is a root oil whose species the sources do not settle. This page is the valerian root oil distillation route; the product, route and specification differ.
Which neighbouring plants does the product tree list with Valerian?
Mechotech’s product tree lists these plants next to Valerian: a Turmeric entry before it and Vetiver after it, in the same group. The hub is Roots / Husk Distillation Plants.
