Sweet Fennel Oleoresin Spices Oleoresin Extraction Plants — Mechotech

Sweet Fennel Oleoresin

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey spices oleoresin extraction plants for Sweet Fennel. The product tree lists Sweet Fennel under Spices Oleoresin Extraction Plants, and Mechotech’s legacy page for the Sweet Fennel Oleoresin Extraction Plant describes industrial solvent extraction of the oleoresin of Foeniculum vulgare var. dulce, the cultivated sweet fennel variety, selected for its high trans-anethole content (80–90% on that page) and near-absence of the bitter fenchone found in bitter fennel. The page lists liqueur production, infant digestive formulations, confectionery flavouring and high-end fragrance as the uses where fenchone bitterness would be unwelcome. The Sureka Life Sciences (SLS) catalogue lists a Sweet Fennel Extract with Foeniculum vulgare Miller and anethole. This page is the oleoresin route; the seed-oil distillation route is on a separate page.

Mechotech’s Sweet Fennel plant is configured around the raw material and the target oleoresin. Built in SS 316L with integrated solvent recovery, automation and full documentation, each plant is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. The solvent, extraction conditions and standardisation target are set during process development and pilot validation.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Sweet fennel seed is authenticated, cleaned, tested for moisture and milled to a uniform particle size to maximise solvent contact before extraction; the particle size is set during process development.

2

Extraction

The milled seed is extracted with a solvent in closed jacketed SS 316L extractors under controlled temperature. Mechotech’s legacy page for the fennel oleoresin stresses low-temperature processing so that trans-anethole is not isomerised to the less desirable cis form, and the same care is applied here; the solvent, ratio and temperature are set during process development.

3

Filtration

The extract (miscella) is clarified through a plate-and-frame filter press followed by cartridge polish filters.

4

Concentration & Solvent Recovery

The miscella is concentrated in a falling-film / vacuum evaporator, with solvent recovered through the condenser return system.

5

Standardisation

The concentrate is assayed and adjusted to the client’s target oleoresin specification, with trans-anethole as the marker, before final finishing. The assay method and acceptance limits are agreed with the buyer.

6

Finishing & Quality Control

The standardised oleoresin is stripped of residual solvent, packed and released after assay, residual-solvent, heavy-metal and microbial testing.

From Plant to Product

Sweet Fennel Extract

This botanical is also in the product range of Sureka Life Sciences, our sister concern in botanical ingredients.

Applications

  • Liqueur production (per Mechotech’s legacy page)
  • Infant digestive formulations (per the legacy page)
  • Confectionery flavouring (per the legacy page)
  • High-end fragrance (per the legacy page)

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

Electropolished SS 316L product-contact surfaces with CIP operation between batches.

  • Alcohol / Aqueous Solvent Extraction

Closed jacketed extractors run food-grade alcohol or aqueous solvent over multiple cycles to recover the target fraction.

  • Closed-Loop Solvent Recovery

Integrated condenser-return recovery reuses solvent between batches and reduces solvent loss.

  • Standardised to Specification

In-process and batch-release assay are used to check the finished extract against the agreed target specification.

  • Scalable Batch Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Sweet Fennel?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Sweet Fennel — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Sweet Fennel plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Sweet Fennel; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and batch-release testing with certificate-of-analysis documentation is defined with the client.
What production capacities are available for the Sweet Fennel plant?
Capacity for the Sweet Fennel plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which industries use the Sweet Fennel oleoresin plant?
Mechotech’s legacy page lists liqueur production, infant digestive formulations, confectionery flavouring and high-end fragrance. The Sureka Life Sciences catalogue lists digestive aid, menstrual health, metabolism and weight management, detoxification, respiratory care, pain and inflammation, and food-industry uses for its sweet fennel entries; these are catalogue use areas, not performance claims by Mechotech. The end use and the target specification are confirmed with the client.
How is Sweet Fennel extract produced in Mechotech’s extraction plant?
Sweet fennel seed is authenticated, cleaned, moisture-tested and milled, then extracted with a solvent in closed jacketed SS 316L extractors at controlled, low temperature. The miscella is clarified through a plate-and-frame filter press and cartridge polish filters, concentrated in a falling-film / vacuum evaporator with solvent recovery, standardised on trans-anethole and packed; each batch is released after assay and quality testing.
What distinguishes sweet fennel from fennel?
Mechotech’s legacy page describes sweet fennel as the cultivated variety Foeniculum vulgare var. dulce, selected for high trans-anethole and near-absence of bitter fenchone, whereas its page for the fennel oleoresin gives a lower trans-anethole range with fenchone and estragole. Mechotech lists them as separate entries, Fennel Oleoresin and this page, so the variety and the specification differ; confirm which one is wanted.
How does this page differ from the Sweet Fennel distillation page?
Sweet Fennel Essential Oil is the seed oil distillation route, a steam-distillation product listed under Spices Oils Distillation Plants, while this page is the solvent-extraction route to an oleoresin. Fennel is the fennel seed oil distillation page. The route, the product and the specification differ.
Is a pilot trial recommended for sweet fennel?
Yes. A pilot trial on the client’s seed confirms the solvent, the extraction conditions, the trans-anethole level and the oleoresin quality before a commercial plant is configured.
Which equipment finishes the sweet fennel oleoresin?
After solvent extraction, the miscella is clarified on a Filter Press and concentrated in a Falling Film Evaporator with solvent recovery, then stripped of residual solvent to leave the oleoresin. The finishing step is agreed with the client.
Which related routes and pages does Mechotech list alongside Sweet Fennel?
The hub is Spices Oleoresin Extraction Plants. Mechotech also lists Fennel Oleoresin, Fennel (distillation) and Sweet Fennel Essential Oil (distillation) for the same plant family, each with its own route and specification.
