Marigold Floral Concrete & Absolute Extraction Plants — Mechotech

Marigold

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey floral concrete and absolute extraction plants for marigold (Tagetes erecta). Mechotech’s legacy page names Tagetes erecta and Tagetes patula, values marigold for its floral scent and natural pigment content, and lists its concrete and absolute for perfumery, cosmetics and pharmaceutical applications. The plant produces a floral concrete by hexane extraction and an absolute by ethanol washing of the concrete. This is the concrete and absolute route; the yellow natural colour and lutein routes for marigold are on separate pages.

Mechotech’s marigold plant follows the floral-concrete route: extraction of the flowers with food-grade hexane to a concrete, filtration and quality check, ethanol washing of the concrete to an absolute, then ethanol recovery and concentration. It is built in SS 316L with solvent recovery, PLC-based automation and full documentation, and is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. Solvents, temperatures and cycle times are established during process development and pilot validation.

Manufacturing Process

1

Floral Material Harvesting & Preparation

Marigold flowers are received, inspected and prepared for extraction; handling time and condition are set with the client because flower aroma is perishable.

2

Hexane Extraction (Concrete Production)

The prepared flowers are extracted with food-grade hexane in closed SS 316L extraction vessels, and the solvent is removed and recovered to leave the floral concrete.

3

Concrete Filtration & Quality Check

The concrete is filtered and checked against the agreed specification before the absolute stage.

4

Ethanol Washing (Absolute Production)

The concrete is washed with ethanol, which takes up the aromatic fraction and leaves the waxes largely undissolved.

5

Ethanol Recovery & Absolute Concentration

The ethanolic solution is filtered and concentrated and the ethanol recovered, giving the absolute.

6

Quality Control & Packaging

The absolute is tested against the client’s specification and packed with batch documentation.

This botanical is also in the product range of Sureka Life Sciences, our sister concern in botanical ingredients.

Applications

  • Perfumery
  • Cosmetics and skin care
  • Pharmaceutical applications

Key Features

  • Two-Stage Concrete-to-Absolute Route

The line produces a floral concrete first and then an absolute by ethanol washing, so either form can be taken as the finished product.

  • Solvent Recovery

Hexane and ethanol are recovered through the plant’s condenser-based solvent recovery system.

  • Flammable-Solvent Safety

Solvent-handling areas are specified for flammable solvents; the hazardous-area scope and any certification are confirmed per project.

  • SS 316L Construction

Product-contact surfaces are SS 316L, with CIP capability between batches.

  • Scalable Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Marigold?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Marigold — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Marigold plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Marigold; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and each batch is released with batch-release testing and certificate-of-analysis documentation.
What production capacities are available for the Marigold plant?
Capacity for the Marigold plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which industries use the marigold concrete and absolute plant?
Mechotech’s legacy page for this plant names perfumery, cosmetics and pharmaceutical applications. The Sureka Life Sciences catalogue entry for Marigold Extract (floral concrete) also lists skin-care and cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals, natural remedies, agriculture, and food and poultry. Which of these applies to a concrete or absolute is confirmed with the client, together with the target specification, before the plant is configured.
Which part and species of marigold are processed?
The catalogue lists marigold flowers. The Sureka Life Sciences catalogue names Tagetes erecta for the floral concrete entry, and Mechotech’s legacy page names Tagetes erecta and Tagetes patula. The species, whether whole flower heads or petals are used, and whether they are fresh or dried are confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How is marigold absolute produced in the plant?
The flowers are extracted with food-grade hexane in closed SS 316L vessels to give a floral concrete. The concrete is filtered and checked, washed with ethanol to take up the aromatic fraction, and the ethanolic solution is filtered and concentrated with the ethanol recovered to give the absolute, which is tested and packed.
What is the difference between a floral concrete and an absolute?
A concrete is the waxy solvent extract of the flowers. An absolute is made by washing the concrete with ethanol to take up the aromatic fraction and leave most waxes behind. The plant can supply either form.
Which marker does the marigold concrete and absolute carry?
The Sureka Life Sciences catalogue lists lutein as the marker compound of Marigold Extract on its floral concrete route (Tagetes erecta). Lutein is a pigment-type marker, and this page is not a lutein-standardisation page: it is a catalogue marker, not a Mechotech guarantee, and whether and at what level it is carried into a hexane concrete or ethanol absolute for a given flower supply is established during process development. For lutein extraction see Marigold Lutein Extract.
How does this page differ from Mechotech’s other marigold pages?
This page covers marigold on the floral concrete and absolute route. Flowers - MariGold / Queen Annes Lace / Golden Rod is the yellow natural colour page for three flowers; Marigold Lutein Extract covers lutein extraction with a catalogue figure of 40% to 70% lutein; and Tagetes covers distillation of the flowers to an essential oil. The Sureka Life Sciences catalogue also keeps two separate Marigold Extract entries, a floral concrete entry (Tagetes erecta) and a herbal entry (Calendula officinalis), so the raw material and route are confirmed with the client before a page is chosen. Mechotech’s floral extraction article notes that marigold is often processed not for fragrance but for carotenoid-rich, lutein-related ingredients, so if colour or lutein is the target, the colour and lutein pages are the better starting point.
Which related floral concrete and absolute plants does Mechotech list?
The product tree lists Linden Blossom, Magnolia and Osmanthus near marigold in the floral concrete and absolute group. Other pages include Jasmine, Frangipani and Cassie, and the hub Floral Concrete & Absolute Extraction Plants.
