Sandal wood Wood / Bark Distillation Plants — Mechotech

Sandal wood

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey wood / bark distillation plants for Sandal wood. The product tree lists the entry under Wood / Bark Distillation Plants beside separate Indian, Australian and Red sandal wood entries. Mechotech’s legacy page for the Sandalwood Oil Distillation & Extraction Plant describes steam distillation of sandalwood essential oil from Santalum album (Indian sandalwood) or Santalum spicatum (Australian sandalwood), so it does not settle one species. The Sureka Life Sciences (SLS) catalogue lists Sandal wood Distillation with Santalum album as the botanical source and santalol as the offering grade. The species, the wood form and the target oil are confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.

Mechotech’s Sandal wood plant is configured around the raw material and the target oil. It is built in SS 316L with integrated condensers and oil–water separation, PLC-based automation and full documentation, and is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. The distillation mode and operating parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Sandalwood is cleaned and reduced to chips, shavings or powder, as agreed with the client, so that the charge packs evenly in the still and steam can reach the wood tissue; the particle size is set during process development.

2

Charging & Distillation

The prepared Sandal wood charge is loaded into the SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected during process development for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil.

3

Condensation

Vapours pass through a multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation, condensing the oil and hydrosol.

4

Oil–Water Separation

Condensate is separated in a stainless-steel Florentine flask; the oil is collected and the hydrosol is drawn off and can be recovered as a co-product.

5

Polishing & Drying

The crude oil is polish-filtered and dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate or by vacuum to remove residual moisture.

6

Quality Control

Each batch is sampled for GC-MS profile and physical parameters — specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation — against the client’s specification.

Major Plant Equipment

  • Wood cleaning and size-reduction system (chipper or mill)
  • Perforated basket or false-bottom charge support
  • SS 316L distillation still / extractor
  • Multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation
  • Stainless-steel Florentine flask (oil–water separator)
  • Polish filtration system
  • Drying unit (anhydrous sodium sulphate or vacuum)
  • CIP system
  • PLC-based automation and instrumentation

Plant Output

Sandal wood essential oilAromatic hydrosol (co-product)

Applications

  • Skin-care and cosmetic products
  • Aromatherapy and wellness applications
  • Massage and topical blends
  • Natural perfumery and fragrance compositions (per Mechotech’s legacy page)

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

Product-contact surfaces are SS 316L for corrosion resistance and product purity, with CIP capability between batches.

  • Efficient Condensation

Multi-tube condensers with chilled-water circulation condense the volatile oil and hydrosol and limit loss of volatile top-notes.

  • Configurable Distillation Mode

The still is configured for steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected during process development for the dense wood feedstock and the target oil.

  • Hydrosol Recovery

Integrated oil–water separation allows the aromatic hydrosol to be drawn off and recovered as a co-product.

  • Scalable Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Sandal wood?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Sandal wood — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Sandal wood plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Sandal wood; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and batch-release testing with certificate-of-analysis documentation is defined with the client.
What production capacities are available for the Sandal wood plant?
Capacity for the Sandal wood plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which end uses are listed for the Sandal wood plant?
For this oil, the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue lists topical massage, aromatherapy and meditation, spot treatment and skincare blending among its application areas; these are catalogue use areas, not performance claims by Mechotech.
Which part of Sandal wood is processed in the distillation plant?
The product tree lists Sandal wood under Wood / Bark Distillation Plants without naming a form, and Mechotech’s legacy page describes distillation of sandalwood. The exact form, such as chips, shavings or powder, is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How is Sandal wood oil produced in the plant?
The prepared Sandal wood charge is loaded into an SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil. Vapours are condensed in a multi-tube condenser, the oil and hydrosol are separated in a Florentine flask, and the crude oil is polish-filtered and dried before GC-MS and physical-parameter testing.
Which sandalwood species is on this page?
Mechotech’s legacy page names two species, Santalum album (Indian) and Santalum spicatum (Australian), and the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue entry for Sandal wood Distillation lists Santalum album with santalol. The product tree has a separate Indian sandal wood and a separate Australian sandal wood entry, so this generic page overlaps both. The species the client wants is confirmed before the plant is configured, and the more specific page is the better match when the species is known.
Why is the catalogue CAS number not used here?
The Sureka Life Sciences entry for Sandal wood Distillation gives CAS 8006-87-9, which the same catalogue also lists for its Indian Sandal Wood Distillation and its Red Sandal Wood Distillation entries. The sources do not explain the overlap, so no CAS number is stated on this page; the oil specification and its identification are confirmed with the client.
How does this page differ from the other sandal wood pages?
Indian Sandal Wood and Australian Sandal Wood Absolute are the wood absolute (extraction) routes for those species, Indian Sandal Wood and Australian Sandal Wood Oil are their distillation routes, and Red sandal Wood is Pterocarpus santalinus, a different raw material. This page is the generic sandal wood distillation entry. Confirm the species and route before choosing a page.
Which neighbouring plants does the product tree list with Sandal wood?
Mechotech’s product tree lists these plants next to Sandal wood: Rose wood and Taiwan Hinoki Bark & Wood Oil. The hub is Wood / Bark Distillation Plants.
