Taiwan Hinoki Bark & Wood Oil Wood / Bark Distillation Plants — Mechotech

Taiwan Hinoki Bark & Wood Oil

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey wood / bark distillation plants for Taiwan Hinoki. The product tree lists Taiwan Hinoki under Wood / Bark Distillation Plants and again under Needles & Twigs Distillation Plants, which is why two pages exist. Mechotech’s legacy page is titled Taiwan Hinoki Bark Distillation Plant and describes steam distillation of essential oil from the bark of Taiwan Hinoki, giving the species as Chamaecyparis formosensis. The Sureka Life Sciences (SLS) catalogue lists Taiwan Hinoki Distillation with Chamaecyparis Taiwanensis as the botanical source and hinokitiol as the offering grade. The two sources spell the species differently, and the plant part, bark and wood, is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.

Mechotech’s Taiwan Hinoki plant is configured around the raw material and the target oil. It is built in SS 316L with integrated condensers and oil–water separation, PLC-based automation and full documentation, and is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. The distillation mode and operating parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Taiwan hinoki bark and wood are cleaned and reduced to chips or shavings, as agreed with the client, so that the charge packs evenly in the still and steam can reach the tissue; the particle size is set during process development.

2

Charging & Distillation

The prepared Taiwan Hinoki charge is loaded into the SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected during process development for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil.

3

Condensation

Vapours pass through a multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation, condensing the oil and hydrosol.

4

Oil–Water Separation

Condensate is separated in a stainless-steel Florentine flask; the oil is collected and the hydrosol is drawn off and can be recovered as a co-product.

5

Polishing & Drying

The crude oil is polish-filtered and dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate or by vacuum to remove residual moisture.

6

Quality Control

Each batch is sampled for GC-MS profile and physical parameters — specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation — against the client’s specification.

Major Plant Equipment

  • Bark and wood cleaning and size-reduction system (chipper or mill)
  • Perforated basket or false-bottom charge support
  • SS 316L distillation still / extractor
  • Multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation
  • Stainless-steel Florentine flask (oil–water separator)
  • Polish filtration system
  • Drying unit (anhydrous sodium sulphate or vacuum)
  • CIP system

Plant Output

Taiwan Hinoki essential oilAromatic hydrosol (co-product)

Applications

  • Aromatherapy applications
  • Skin-care and hair-care products
  • Bath products (catalogue use area)
  • Household-cleaning formulations (catalogue use area)

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

Product-contact surfaces are SS 316L for corrosion resistance and product purity, with CIP capability between batches.

  • Efficient Condensation

Multi-tube condensers with chilled-water circulation condense the volatile oil and hydrosol and limit loss of volatile top-notes.

  • Configurable Distillation Mode

The still is configured for steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected during process development for the bark and wood feedstock and the target oil.

  • Hydrosol Recovery

Integrated oil–water separation allows the aromatic hydrosol to be drawn off and recovered as a co-product.

  • Scalable Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Taiwan Hinoki?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Taiwan Hinoki — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Taiwan Hinoki plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Taiwan Hinoki; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and batch-release testing with certificate-of-analysis documentation is defined with the client.
What production capacities are available for the Taiwan Hinoki plant?
Capacity for the Taiwan Hinoki plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which application areas does the catalogue list for the Taiwan Hinoki plant?
For this oil, the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue lists aromatherapy, topical skincare, hair and scalp care, household cleaning and baths among its application areas; these are catalogue use areas, not performance claims by Mechotech.
Which part of Taiwan Hinoki is processed on this page?
This page covers the Wood / Bark Distillation Plants entry, and Mechotech’s legacy page describes distillation of the bark. The product tree also lists Taiwan Hinoki under Needles & Twigs Distillation Plants, which is covered on the Taiwan Hinoki (needles and twigs) page. The exact form is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
How is Taiwan Hinoki oil produced in the plant?
The prepared Taiwan Hinoki charge is loaded into an SS 316L still and distilled by steam, hydro, vacuum or pressure distillation, selected for the volatility and heat-sensitivity of the target oil. Vapours are condensed in a multi-tube condenser, the oil and hydrosol are separated in a Florentine flask, and the crude oil is polish-filtered and dried before GC-MS and physical-parameter testing.
Which species is Taiwan Hinoki on this page?
Mechotech’s legacy page names Chamaecyparis formosensis, while the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue lists Chamaecyparis Taiwanensis with hinokitiol. The sources do not say whether these are the same plant, so this page records both and does not choose; the species and the target oil are confirmed with the client.
Why is the catalogue CAS number not used here?
The Sureka Life Sciences catalogue gives CAS 91745-97-0 for its Taiwan Hinoki Distillation entry and also for its Hinoki Distillation entry, which lists a different species (Chamaecyparis obtusa) and a different offering grade, and for its Pinyon Pine Distillation entry. The sources do not explain the overlap, so no CAS number is stated on this page; the oil specification and its identification are confirmed with the client.
How does Taiwan Hinoki differ from the Hinoki pages?
Hinoki Bark & Wood Oil and Hinoki Needles & Twigs Oil are the two Hinoki entries in the product tree, one under wood and bark and one under needles and twigs, which Mechotech’s legacy page and the Sureka Life Sciences catalogue name as Chamaecyparis obtusa, and Taiwan Hinoki Needles & Twigs Oil is the needles and twigs entry for the Taiwan species. The species and the part differ between entries, so confirm which one is wanted before choosing a page.
Which neighbouring plants does the product tree list with Taiwan Hinoki?
Mechotech’s product tree lists these plants next to Taiwan Hinoki: Sandal wood and Virginian Cedar Wood. The hub is Wood / Bark Distillation Plants.
