Orange Colour Natural Colour Extraction Plants — Mechotech

Orange Colour

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey natural colour extraction plants for the orange colour group. In the Mechotech catalogue this group lists Skins - Brown Onion; Roots - Turmeric / Blood Root; Plant - Giant Coreopsis / Barberry; Leaves - Eucalyptus. The catalogue treats orange colour as a group page rather than a single plant: the member pages describe the individual raw materials. Mechotech’s colour articles describe the pigments of the members: brown onion skins are rich in quercetin flavonoids, giant coreopsis flowers and berberine-rich barberry roots give an orange dye, turmeric and bloodroot bring curcumin and sanguinarine, and eucalyptus leaves carry tannins, flavonoids and carotenoids.

Mechotech’s orange colour plant is configured around the raw material chosen from the group and the target colour extract. It is built in SS 316L with integrated solvent recovery, automation and full documentation, and is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. The raw material, solvent and extraction route are selected during process development and pilot validation.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

The chosen raw material is authenticated, tested for moisture and cleaned, then milled, crushed or macerated to a uniform particle size to maximise solvent contact before extraction.

2

Extraction

The prepared raw material is extracted with food-grade solvent (alcohol / aqueous) in closed jacketed SS 316L extractors at controlled temperature over multiple cycles, with the solvent system chosen for the pigment class of the selected material.

3

Filtration

The extract (miscella) is clarified through a plate-and-frame filter press followed by cartridge polish filters.

4

Concentration & Solvent Recovery

The miscella is concentrated in a falling-film / vacuum evaporator, with solvent recovered through the condenser return system so that heat exposure of the pigment stays low.

5

Standardisation

The concentrate is assayed for colour strength and adjusted to the client’s target specification before the final finishing step.

6

Drying & Quality Control

The standardised Green Colour extract is spray- or vacuum-dried where a powder is required, then released after the agreed assay, residual-solvent, heavy-metal, microbial and moisture tests.

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

Electropolished SS 316L product-contact surfaces with CIP operation between batches.

  • Closed-Loop Solvent Recovery

Integrated condenser-return recovery reuses solvent between batches and reduces solvent loss.

  • Multi-Material Flexibility

The same extraction, filtration and concentration line can be configured for the different raw materials in the group, with solvent and conditions set per material.

  • Gentle Concentration

Vacuum concentration keeps heat exposure low for temperature-sensitive colour compounds.

  • Scalable Batch Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

  • Standardised to Specification

In-process and batch-release assay are used to check the finished extract against its agreed target specification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Orange Colour?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Orange Colour — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Orange Colour plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Orange Colour; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and each batch is released with batch-release testing and certificate-of-analysis documentation.
What production capacities are available for the Orange Colour plant?
Capacity for the Orange Colour plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which raw materials are in the Orange Colour group?
The catalogue lists these raw materials in the group: Skins - Brown Onion; Roots - Turmeric / Blood Root; Plant - Giant Coreopsis / Barberry; Leaves - Eucalyptus. Each has its own page with the plant part and process for that material.
What gives the orange colour group its colour?
Mechotech’s articles describe a different pigment source for each member. Brown onion skins are described as rich in quercetin flavonoids giving a warm yellow-to-orange; giant coreopsis flowers and berberine-rich barberry roots together give a bright, stable orange; turmeric’s curcumin and bloodroot’s sanguinarine give a rich orange; and eucalyptus leaves yield orange to rust tones from tannins, flavonoids and carotenoids. Read more in Orange Colour Extraction from Brown Onion Skins, from Giant Coreopsis and Barberry, from Turmeric and Bloodroot and from Eucalyptus Leaves. The pigment each raw material actually yields for a client’s shade is confirmed during process development.
Is the same plant used for several colour groups?
Some raw materials appear in more than one group. Skins - Brown Onion is described in articles for both orange and yellow colours, and the Yellow Colour group lists Roots - Turmeric separately from the orange group’s Roots - Turmeric / Blood Root. The catalogue keeps these as separate pages; which shade a plant gives depends on the extraction and mordant route chosen with the client.
How is the raw material chosen?
The choice depends on the target shade, the pigment class, availability and the intended use. Mechotech screens the candidate materials during process development and confirms the choice on a pilot run before the plant is configured.
