Roots - Maddar Natural Colour Extraction Plants — Mechotech

Roots - Maddar

Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey natural colour extraction plants for madder root (catalogue spelling: Roots - Maddar). In the Mechotech catalogue, Roots - Maddar is listed in the Red Colour group alongside vegetable, hibiscus, avocado, sumac, Brazil wood, St. John’s wort and sycamore entries. Mechotech’s legacy page for the Madder Root (Rubia cordifolia) Colour Extraction Plant describes madder root, known as Manjistha in Ayurveda, as a natural dye source with applications in textiles, cosmetics and herbal medicine, containing anthraquinone compounds, primarily alizarin, which gives a rich red; it lists alizarin (red dye) as used in textile dyeing, natural inks and cosmetics. The legacy page gives no extraction conditions, no assay and no plant capacity, so the route is set during process development. Mechotech’s Red Colour article covers anthocyanins, betalains and carotenoids and does not describe madder.

Mechotech’s Roots - Maddar plant is configured around the raw material and the target colour extract. It is built in SS 316L with integrated solvent recovery, automation and full documentation, and is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system. Because the legacy page states the species, the plant part by name and the principal pigment but no route, the line is specified for solid-liquid extraction, filtration, vacuum concentration and standardisation, and the solvent system, extraction conditions and pH are established during process development and pilot validation on the client’s madder root.

Manufacturing Process

1

Raw Material Preparation

Madder root is authenticated, washed free of soil, tested for moisture and size-reduced so the extraction liquor can reach the tissue; the particle size is set during process development.

2

Extraction

The prepared root is extracted in closed jacketed SS 316L vessels at controlled temperature over several cycles to recover the red anthraquinone pigments. The legacy page states no solvent or temperature, so the solvent system, temperature and pH are set during process development.

3

Filtration

The extract is separated from the spent root and clarified through a plate-and-frame filter press followed by cartridge polish filters.

4

Concentration & Solvent Recovery

The extract is concentrated in a falling-film / vacuum evaporator, with solvent recovered through the condenser return system where a solvent is used.

5

Standardisation

The concentrate is assayed and adjusted to the declared target colour specification, such as shade and colour strength. No assay method or content figure is stated in any source, so the specification is agreed with the client.

6

Drying & Quality Control

The standardised extract is supplied as a liquid concentrate or spray- or vacuum-dried to a powder, per specification, then released after assay, residual-solvent (where a solvent is used), heavy-metal, microbial and moisture testing.

Major Plant Equipment

  • Raw material cleaning, authentication and moisture testing
  • Size-reduction system
  • Closed jacketed SS 316L extraction vessels
  • Solvent storage tanks
  • Plate-and-frame filter press
  • Cartridge polish filtration
  • Falling-film / vacuum evaporator
  • Solvent recovery unit and condensers
  • Standardisation / blending vessel
  • Spray or vacuum dryer
  • CIP system
  • Automation and instrumentation

Plant Output

Natural colour extract (red colour group), as a liquid concentrate or dried powder per specification

Applications

  • Textile dyeing (alizarin red dye, per Mechotech’s legacy page)
  • Natural inks (per the legacy page)
  • Cosmetic colour applications (per the legacy page)
  • Natural colour and dye ingredient supply

Key Features

  • SS 316L Construction

Electropolished SS 316L product-contact surfaces with CIP operation between batches.

  • Route Set on the Client’s Madder Root

The legacy page names the pigment family but no extraction conditions, so solvent, conditions and shade are established on pilot runs with the client’s material rather than assumed.

  • Closed-Loop Solvent Recovery

Where a solvent is used, integrated condenser-return recovery reuses solvent between batches and reduces solvent loss.

  • Standardised to Specification

In-process and batch-release assay are used to check the finished extract against the agreed target specification, such as shade and colour strength.

  • Scalable Batch Capacity

Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Roots - Maddar?
Yes. Mechotech supplies the complete turnkey plant for Roots - Maddar — engineered, fabricated at our Hyderabad facility, installed and commissioned as a single integrated system. Final process parameters are established during process development and pilot validation.
What specification can the Roots - Maddar plant achieve?
The plant is configured to the client’s target specification for Roots - Maddar; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and batch-release testing with certificate-of-analysis documentation is defined with the client.
What production capacities are available for the Roots - Maddar plant?
Capacity for the Roots - Maddar plant is configured to raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline, starting at pilot scale; a pilot plant is recommended to validate parameters before scaling.
Which industries use the Roots - Maddar plant?
The end-use areas listed for Roots - Maddar are given under Applications. The end use, the colour shade and the target specification are confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
Which plant is madder root on this page, and which part is used?
Mechotech’s legacy page for the Madder Root Colour Extraction Plant names Rubia cordifolia, known as Manjistha in Ayurveda, and treats the root as the raw material. The product tree lists the entry as Roots - Maddar without a species. The exact feed form is confirmed with the client before the plant is configured.
What gives madder root its red colour?
The legacy page names anthraquinone compounds, primarily alizarin, as the source of the rich red, and lists alizarin as the red dye used in textile dyeing, natural inks and cosmetics. The page is cut off after naming purpurin, so no other pigment, content figure or assay method is stated.
Why is madder not covered by the Red Colour article?
Mechotech’s article on red colour extraction covers three pigment families, anthocyanins, betalains and carotenoids. The legacy page places madder in a different family (anthraquinones), so the article does not describe its route. The route is therefore established on a pilot run; see the hub page Red Colour for the pigment families the article does cover.
Why is the product named Maddar?
‘Maddar’ is the spelling used in the product tree and in this page’s catalogue name; the legacy page and general usage spell it madder. The catalogue name is kept so that the page matches the product tree, and the text uses the standard spelling where the plant is described.
Where does this page sit in the Red Colour range?
Roots - Maddar is part of the Red Colour group (hub page: Red Colour). The product tree lists these neighbouring pages in the group: Vegetables - Raddish / Red Cabbage / Strawberry / Beetroot; Flowers - Hibiscus; Fruit - Avacado; Berries - Sumac; Wood - Brazil Wood; Plant - St.John's Wort; Bark - Sycamore. The overall catalogue hub is Natural Colour Extraction Plants.
