Peppermint

Peppermint
Purity Levels
Steam-distilled essential oil; menthol typically the dominant monoterpene alcohol in the oil composition (commonly cited in general literature in the region of 30–50%, confirmed batch-to-batch by GC-MS rather than guaranteed as a fixed spec)
Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey steam-distillation plants for Peppermint (Mentha piperita), converting freshly harvested leaves and flowering tops into a menthol-rich essential oil. As a peppermint oil extraction plant manufacturer, we supply the complete machinery — feedstock preparation, steam/hydro-distillation, condensation, oil-water separation, polishing and quality control — for the pharmaceutical, oral-care, food-flavour, and fragrance industries. Peppermint is one of the highest-volume, most standardised essential oils traded globally, and the plant is built for consistent, repeatable output at commercial scale.
Mechotech's Peppermint plant is engineered around the practical realities of high-throughput mint-oil production: fresh leafy biomass with a high moisture content and a volatile, menthol-dominant oil that must be captured efficiently without over-cooking the batch. The still, condenser bank and Florentine separators are sized for rapid, repeatable turnover of large daily leaf volumes, since peppermint growers typically deliver freshly cut material that should be distilled within hours of harvest to protect oil yield and quality. Because peppermint is grown and processed at a scale most other aromatic leaf crops on this site are not, the plant's steam economy, condenser surface area and separator sizing are set with seasonal peak-harvest throughput in mind rather than occasional small-batch runs, so buyers moving from pilot trials into full contract-farming volumes are not forced into a second capital cycle. Built in SS 316L with high-surface-area condensers, chilled-water circulation, and PLC-based automation, each plant is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system, with every batch confirmed by GC-MS and physical parameters before release.

Manufacturing Process
Raw Material Reception & Wilting
Freshly harvested peppermint leaves and flowering tops are received, inspected, and lightly field-wilted where required to reduce surface moisture, since fresh mint carries high water content that affects still loading and steam economy.
Charging & Steam Distillation
The prepared leaf/flower charge is loaded into the SS 316L still on a perforated false-bottom or basket system and distilled by direct steam or hydrodistillation, timed to fully volatilise the menthol-rich oil without prolonging exposure that degrades top-notes.
Condensation
Vapours pass through a high-surface-area multi-tube condenser with chilled-water circulation, condensing the volatile oil and aromatic hydrosol together for downstream separation.
Oil–Water Separation
Condensate is separated in a stainless-steel Florentine flask; the lighter peppermint oil is decanted off while the hydrosol is drawn off separately as a co-product.
Polishing & Drying
The crude oil is polish-filtered and dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate (or under vacuum) to remove residual moisture and fine particulate before packing.
Quality Control
Each batch of peppermint oil is verified by GC-MS for menthol and companion-compound profile, plus physical parameters (specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation) before release with a certificate of analysis.

Key Features
High-Throughput Still Design
Stills and loading systems are sized for peppermint's high seasonal harvest volumes, supporting rapid batch turnover during peak cutting season.
SS 316L Construction
All product-contact surfaces are SS 316L for corrosion resistance and product purity, with CIP capability between batches.
Efficient Condensation & Menthol Recovery
High-surface-area multi-tube condensers with chilled-water circulation maximise recovery of the menthol-rich oil fraction and minimise losses of volatile top-notes.
Hydrosol Recovery
Integrated Florentine separation allows recovery of peppermint hydrosol as a co-product.
GC-MS Batch Verification
Every batch is verified against menthol and companion-compound profile before release, supporting consistent export-grade quality.
Scalable Seasonal Capacity
Plants are configured from pilot to commercial scale with modular expansion to match harvest volume growth.
