Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey extraction plants that process flax cake to recover lignans. We supply the machinery for the route selected after screening — raw-material preparation, extraction, separation, concentration or recovery, and drying or collection — configured to the target specification. Mechotech's technology screening identifies 4 candidate routes for flax cake and lignans: 4 high-priority screening fits, with Counter-Current Extraction (CCE), Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE), Hybrid Extraction and Microwave-Assisted Extraction (MAE) jointly best-ranked (rank 27 of 100).

For flax cake with lignans as the target, there are 4 candidate technologies: Counter-Current Extraction (CCE), Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE), Hybrid Extraction and Microwave-Assisted Extraction (MAE). By route — Counter-Current (CCE): high-priority screening, rank 27 of 100, ethanol/water or suitable food-grade solvent; Ultrasound (UAE): high-priority screening, rank 27 of 100, ethanol/water or water; Hybrid: high-priority screening, rank 27 of 100, sequence selected by target; Microwave (MAE): high-priority screening, rank 27 of 100, ethanol/water or water. For the first-listed of the best-ranked routes, Counter-Current (CCE), the screening flags: counter-current contact and solvent recovery; verify bed flow and fines management. These are screening candidates rather than guarantees: the final technology, operating parameters and plant configuration are established during process development and pilot validation. Product-contact parts are built in SS 316L with CIP-cleanable design, and automation is configured to the project.

Manufacturing Process

Each extraction method follows a different process — pick a method to see its steps.

1

Raw-Material Preparation

Flax cake is cleaned and size-reduced so lignans can be reached by the extraction medium; particle size and moisture are set during process development.

2

Counter-Current Loading

Prepared flax cake is fed into a multi-stage solid–liquid counter-current extractor where fresh ethanol/water or a suitable food-grade solvent meets the most-depleted material.

3

Counter-Current Extraction

Solvent flows against the solids across stages to draw out lignans; bed flow and fines management are verified during pilot work.

4

Extract (Miscella) Collection

The lignans-bearing miscella is collected from the fresh-feed end while spent solids are discharged from the solvent-entry end.

5

Concentration & Solvent Recovery

Solvent is removed from the clarified lignans-bearing extract under vacuum and returned through a solvent-recovery loop; recovery performance is confirmed at pilot scale.

6

Standardisation & Drying

The lignans extract is assayed against the declared target specification and dried or supplied as a concentrate, according to the requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a flax cake extraction plant for lignans?
It is a turnkey Mechotech plant that processes flax cake to recover lignans. The plant covers raw-material preparation, extraction, separation, concentration or fraction collection, and drying or packing, and is configured to the target specification. It sits within Mechotech's wider range of herbal extraction plants.
Which plant part or feed form does the flax cake plant process?
The candidate feedstock is flax cake. The target extract is lignans.
Which extraction technologies are suitable for flax cake?
This feedstock has 4 candidate technologies: Counter-Current Extraction (CCE) (high-priority screening), Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE) (high-priority screening), Hybrid Extraction (high-priority screening) and Microwave-Assisted Extraction (MAE) (high-priority screening). See the related pages on counter-current extraction, ultrasound-assisted extraction, hybrid extraction and microwave-assisted extraction. These are screening candidates, not guarantees of yield, purity or recovery; the route is confirmed through process development and pilot validation. In Mechotech's technology screening these candidates are ranked directionally — high-priority: Counter-Current Extraction (rank 27 of 100), Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (rank 27 of 100), Hybrid Extraction (rank 27 of 100), Microwave-Assisted Extraction (rank 27 of 100). Ranks are directional screening priorities at method-family level, not measured yield, ROI or plant guarantees.
How does Mechotech's screening rank the candidate routes for flax cake?
