Garcinia Mangostana Extract

Garcinia Mangostana Extract
Purity Levels
α-Mangostin 10% to 20% by HPLC
Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey extraction plants for Garcinia mangostana (mangosteen), processing the dried fruit rind (pericarp) — not the edible white pulp — into a standardised extract at α-Mangostin 10% to 20% by HPLC. α-Mangostin is a xanthone compound concentrated almost entirely in the rind's pigmented outer tissue, which is why the rind, discarded as waste in fresh-fruit consumption, is the commercial raw material for this extract rather than the fruit itself. We supply the complete machinery — rind cleaning, milling, solvent extraction, filtration, vacuum concentration, closed-loop solvent recovery, HPLC standardisation and drying — to process mangosteen rind into a consistent xanthone extract for the nutraceutical and cosmetic industries.
Mechotech's Garcinia mangostana plant is engineered around the specific chemistry of the rind's xanthone fraction: α-mangostin is a lipophilic, polyphenolic xanthone concentrated in the thick, deep-purple pericarp rather than the sweet, seed-bearing white aril that is eaten as fruit, so raw-material sourcing and pre-treatment are built specifically around rind handling — typically dried rind sourced as a co-product of mangosteen fruit processing. Because the pigmented rind tissue also carries tannins and colour bodies alongside the target xanthone, the line includes dedicated clarification and decolourisation stages ahead of standardisation. Built in SS 316L with electropolished product-contact surfaces, PLC-SCADA automation and full batch documentation, each plant is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system engineered to the declared α-Mangostin 10%-20% by HPLC specification.

Manufacturing Process
Rind Cleaning & Size Reduction
Dried mangosteen rind (pericarp) is cleaned to remove residual pulp, seed fragments and foreign matter, tested for moisture, and milled to a uniform particle size to expose the pigmented rind tissue for efficient solvent contact.
Hydro-Alcoholic / Solvent Extraction
Milled rind is charged into closed, jacketed SS 316L extraction vessels and extracted with a controlled hydro-alcoholic or solvent system across multiple cycles to recover the xanthone fraction, principally α-mangostin, from the dense rind matrix.
Solid-Liquid Separation & Filtration
The extract slurry is clarified through a plate-and-frame filter press followed by cartridge polish filters, removing spent rind fibre ahead of concentration.
Decolourisation
The clarified extract is treated to reduce the deep-purple anthocyanin and tannin-related pigments naturally concentrated in mangosteen rind, improving the appearance, filterability and stability of the finished powder without stripping the xanthone fraction.
Vacuum Concentration
The treated extract is concentrated in a falling-film / vacuum evaporator under reduced pressure, reducing solvent load ahead of drying while protecting α-mangostin content.
Solvent Recovery
A closed-loop recovery system condenses and recycles the extraction solvent back into production.
HPLC Standardisation, Drying & Quality Control
The concentrate is assayed by HPLC for α-mangostin content, adjusted to the declared 10% to 20% specification, then spray- or vacuum-tray dried to a free-flowing powder and released after assay, residual-solvent, heavy-metal, microbial, and moisture testing with full certificate-of-analysis documentation.

Key Features
GMP Hygienic SS 316L Construction
Electropolished SS 316L product-contact surfaces use GMP hygienic design, with CIP operation between batches.
Rind-Specific Raw Material Handling
The line is engineered around dried rind (pericarp) as the raw material rather than the edible pulp, since α-mangostin is concentrated in the pigmented outer rind tissue, not the fruit that is commonly eaten.
Integrated Decolourisation
A dedicated decolourisation stage reduces the rind's naturally intense pigment carryover, giving a lighter, more consistent finished powder without compromising xanthone content.
Closed-Loop Solvent Recovery
Integrated recovery returns solvent for reuse each batch, reducing fresh-solvent consumption.
HPLC-Verified Standardisation
In-process and batch-release HPLC assay are used to check the finished extract against its declared α-Mangostin 10%-20% specification.
Scalable Batch Capacity
Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.
