Grape Pomace Polyphenol and Anthocyanin Extract

Grape Pomace Polyphenol and Anthocyanin Extract
Extraction Technologies
Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey extraction plants that process grape pomace to recover resveratrol and polyphenols and anthocyanins. We supply the machinery for the route selected after screening — raw-material preparation, extraction, separation, concentration or recovery, and drying or collection — configured to the target specification. Mechotech's technology screening assigns routes by target — resveratrol and polyphenols: Counter-Current (CCE), Ultrasound (UAE), Hybrid and Microwave (MAE); anthocyanins: Subcritical Water (SWE), Enzyme-Assisted (EAE) and Hybrid; the best-ranked route overall is Subcritical Water Extraction (SWE) (high-priority screening, rank 6 of 100).
For grape pomace with resveratrol and polyphenols and anthocyanins as the target, there are 6 candidate technologies: Counter-Current Extraction (CCE), Subcritical Water Extraction (SWE), Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE), Enzyme-Assisted Extraction (EAE), Hybrid Extraction and Microwave-Assisted Extraction (MAE). By route — Counter-Current (CCE) for resveratrol and polyphenols: high-priority screening, rank 7 of 100, ethanol/water or suitable food-grade solvent; Subcritical Water (SWE) for anthocyanins: high-priority screening, rank 6 of 100, pressurized water; Ultrasound (UAE) for resveratrol and polyphenols: high-priority screening, rank 7 of 100, ethanol/water or water; Enzyme-Assisted (EAE) for anthocyanins: exploratory screening, rank 78 of 100, water, enzyme and pH control; Hybrid for resveratrol and polyphenols: high-priority screening, rank 7 of 100, sequence selected by target; Hybrid for anthocyanins: relevant screening, rank 66 of 100, sequence selected by target; Microwave (MAE) for resveratrol and polyphenols: high-priority screening, rank 7 of 100, ethanol/water or water. For the best-ranked route, Subcritical Water (SWE), the screening flags: pressure-rated hot water; check thermal degradation, hydrolysis and downstream drying. These are screening candidates rather than guarantees: the final technology, operating parameters and plant configuration are established during process development and pilot validation. Product-contact parts are built in SS 316L with CIP-cleanable design, and automation is configured to the project.

Manufacturing Process
Each extraction method follows a different process — pick a method to see its steps.
Raw-Material Preparation
Grape pomace is cleaned and size-reduced so resveratrol and polyphenols can be reached by the extraction medium; particle size and moisture are set during process development.
Counter-Current Loading
Prepared grape pomace is fed into a multi-stage solid–liquid counter-current extractor where fresh ethanol/water or a suitable food-grade solvent meets the most-depleted material.
Counter-Current Extraction
Solvent flows against the solids across stages to draw out resveratrol and polyphenols; bed flow and fines management are verified during pilot work.
Extract (Miscella) Collection
The resveratrol and polyphenols-bearing miscella is collected from the fresh-feed end while spent solids are discharged from the solvent-entry end.
Concentration & Solvent Recovery
Solvent is removed from the clarified resveratrol and polyphenols-bearing extract under vacuum and returned through a solvent-recovery loop; recovery performance is confirmed at pilot scale.
Standardisation & Drying
The resveratrol and polyphenols extract is assayed against the declared target specification and dried or supplied as a concentrate, according to the requirement.
Raw-Material Preparation
Grape pomace is cleaned and size-reduced so anthocyanins can be reached by the extraction medium; particle size and moisture are set during process development.
Vessel Loading & Pressurisation
Prepared grape pomace and water are loaded into a pressure-rated extraction vessel.
Subcritical Water Extraction
Water held liquid under pressure at elevated temperature extracts anthocyanins without an organic solvent; temperature and residence time are set to limit thermal degradation and hydrolysis.
Separation
Spent solids are separated by filtration or centrifugation and the extract is clarified before concentration.
Concentration
The clarified aqueous extract is concentrated under vacuum or by membrane systems where required; no organic solvent is used in this route.
Recovery, Standardisation & Drying
The anthocyanins fraction is recovered from the concentrate by a route selected during process development and checked against the target specification; drying and storage behaviour are verified because phenolic targets can be sensitive to heat and oxidation.
Raw-Material Preparation
Grape pomace is cleaned and size-reduced so resveratrol and polyphenols can be reached by the extraction medium; particle size and moisture are set during process development.
Slurrying
Prepared grape pomace is slurried with ethanol/water or water in the extraction vessel.
Ultrasonic Cavitation
Ultrasound creates cavitation that disrupts the plant matrix and speeds release of resveratrol and polyphenols; probe intensity, temperature and filtration behaviour are piloted.
Separation
Spent solids are separated by filtration or centrifugation and the extract is clarified before concentration.
Slurry & pH Control
Prepared grape pomace is slurried in water with pH and temperature set for the enzyme system.
Enzymatic Treatment
An enzyme (for example a cellulase, pectinase or protease, selected for the grape pomace matrix) breaks down bound cell-wall material to release anthocyanins; enzyme cost and specificity are validated at pilot scale.
Enzyme Inactivation & Separation
The enzyme is inactivated and spent solids are separated by filtration or centrifugation.
Grape pomace is cleaned and size-reduced so resveratrol and polyphenols and anthocyanins can be reached by the extraction medium; particle size and moisture are set during process development.
Stage Sequence Selection
A deliberate combined extraction train is used: the sequence of stages is selected for resveratrol and polyphenols and anthocyanins in pilot screening and each stage is designed separately.
First Assisted Stage
The first stage releases resveratrol and polyphenols and anthocyanins from the prepared feed under controlled conditions set for that stage.
Second / Combined Stage
The second stage completes recovery of resveratrol and polyphenols and anthocyanins from the partially extracted material; stage conditions are optimised separately.
Separation & Concentration
Spent solids are removed and the combined extract is clarified and concentrated; solvent is recovered where a solvent is used.
Standardisation & Drying
The resveratrol and polyphenols and anthocyanins extract is assayed against the declared target specification and dried or supplied as a concentrate, according to the requirement.
Raw-Material Preparation
Grape pomace is cleaned and size-reduced so resveratrol and polyphenols can be reached by the extraction medium; particle size and moisture are set during process development.
Medium Mixing
Prepared grape pomace is mixed with ethanol/water or water in the microwave extraction vessel.
Microwave Heating & Extraction
Controlled microwave heating drives resveratrol and polyphenols out of the prepared feed in a short cycle; heating, moisture, solvent safety and temperature-sensitive targets are controlled, with limits set during process development and pilot validation.
Separation
Spent solids are separated by filtration or centrifugation and the extract is clarified before concentration.

Key Features
Subcritical Water (SWE) — High-Priority Screening Fit
Best-ranked route for grape pomace: rank 6 of 100 in Mechotech's subcritical water extraction screening, using pressurized water. Ranks are directional screening priorities, not measured yield, ROI or plant guarantees.
6 Candidate Routes
Routes screened for grape pomace: Counter-Current (CCE) — high-priority, rank 7; Subcritical Water (SWE) — high-priority, rank 6; Ultrasound (UAE) — high-priority, rank 7; Enzyme-Assisted (EAE) — exploratory, rank 78; Hybrid — high-priority, rank 7; Microwave (MAE) — high-priority, rank 7. Each route has its own process tab above.
2-Target Scope
Targets are assigned to routes in the screening — resveratrol and polyphenols: Counter-Current (CCE), Ultrasound (UAE), Hybrid and Microwave (MAE); anthocyanins: Subcritical Water (SWE), Enzyme-Assisted (EAE) and Hybrid — so each route’s steps name only the target it is screened for.
Parameters Fixed After Pilot Trials
Recovery of resveratrol and polyphenols and anthocyanins, selectivity, solvent or water duty, quality and cleaning are measured in pilot trials, starting with small-scale feed trials, before final plant parameters are fixed.
SS 316L Hygienic Construction
Product-contact surfaces are SS 316L and CIP-cleanable, in a hygienic design suited to food, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical supply chains; PLC-SCADA automation with recipe control can be configured to the project scope.
