Terminalia Bellirica Extract

Terminalia Bellirica Extract
Purity Levels
40% Polyphenols as gallic acid by UV
Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey herbal extraction plants for Terminalia bellirica (Bibhitaki, also known as Beleric), processing the dried fruit into an extract standardised to 40% Polyphenols as gallic acid by UV. The Bibhitaki fruit pericarp is rich in tannins and related polyphenolic compounds, commercially measured and expressed as a gallic-acid-equivalent value by UV spectrophotometry — the standard analytical approach for total polyphenol content in this fruit. Bibhitaki is one of the three fruits of the classical Ayurvedic Triphala formulation and is also supplied as a standalone antioxidant and digestive-health botanical. We supply the complete machinery to convert authenticated, de-seeded Bibhitaki fruit into a consistent, polyphenol-standardised extract for the nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, and Ayurvedic manufacturing industries.
Mechotech's Terminalia bellirica plant is engineered around the specific chemistry of Bibhitaki fruit pericarp, where the target polyphenol/tannin fraction is water-soluble and prone to oxidative browning at elevated temperature: controlled aqueous or hydro-alcoholic extraction at moderate temperature is used to maximise polyphenol yield while protecting the gallic-acid-ester structures that the UV assay measures. De-seeding and pulp-to-seed verification ahead of extraction ensure only the active-bearing pericarp is processed. Built in SS 316L with electropolished product-contact surfaces, closed-loop solvent recovery, and PLC-based automation, each plant is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system engineered to the declared 40% Polyphenols as gallic acid by UV specification.

Manufacturing Process
Raw Material Authentication & De-seeding Check
Dried Bibhitaki fruit is authenticated, cleaned of foreign matter, and verified for pulp-to-seed ratio and incoming moisture, since the polyphenol-bearing pericarp — not the seed — is the material of interest.
Size Reduction
Cleaned fruit pericarp is milled to a uniform particle size to maximise solvent contact area and accelerate polyphenol diffusion during extraction.
Aqueous / Hydro-Alcoholic Extraction
Milled pericarp is charged into closed, jacketed SS 316L extraction vessels and extracted with water or a controlled hydro-alcoholic solvent system at moderate temperature across multiple cycles, maximising recovery of the tannin/polyphenol fraction while limiting oxidative degradation.
Solid-Liquid Separation & Filtration
The polyphenol-rich extract slurry is clarified through a plate-and-frame filter press followed by cartridge polish filters to remove fibrous pulp residue before concentration.
Vacuum Concentration & Solvent Recovery
The filtered extract is concentrated in a falling-film / vacuum evaporator under reduced pressure and moderate temperature to protect the polyphenol fraction, with a closed-loop system recovering solvent for reuse.
Standardisation
The concentrate is assayed by UV spectrophotometry for total polyphenol content, expressed as gallic acid equivalent, and adjusted to the declared 40% Polyphenols as gallic acid by UV specification before drying.
Drying & Quality Control
The standardised extract is spray- or vacuum-tray dried to a free-flowing, low-moisture powder, then released after UV assay, heavy-metal, microbial, and moisture testing with full certificate-of-analysis documentation.

Key Features
GMP Hygienic SS 316L Construction
Electropolished SS 316L product-contact surfaces use GMP hygienic design, with CIP operation between batches.
Polyphenol-Fraction Protection
Moderate-temperature aqueous/hydro-alcoholic extraction and vacuum concentration limit oxidative browning of the heat-sensitive polyphenol fraction; the extract is checked against its declared assay.
Closed-Loop Solvent Recovery
Integrated recovery returns solvent for reuse each batch, reducing fresh-solvent consumption.
Standardised to Specification
In-process and batch-release UV assay are used to check the finished Terminalia bellirica extract against its declared 40% Polyphenols as gallic acid by UV specification.
Integrated Drying
A matched spray/vacuum dryer produces a free-flowing, low-moisture powder ready for encapsulation and Triphala blending.
Scalable Batch Capacity
Plants are configured to requirement from pilot scale upward, with modular expansion.
