Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey herbal extraction plants for Chamomile Dry Extract, produced from the dried flower heads of Matricaria chamomilla (German chamomile), standardised to Apigenin By HPLC. Chamomile flower carries a complex profile of flavonoids — principally apigenin and its glycosides, alongside luteolin and quercetin derivatives — together with coumarins and mucilage, all of which must be drawn out and concentrated without degrading the flower's characteristic actives. We supply the complete machinery — flower cleaning, milling, hydro-alcoholic extraction, filtration, vacuum concentration, closed-loop solvent recovery, HPLC-verified standardisation and drying — to process Chamomile flower into a consistent dry extract for the nutraceutical, food, and cosmetic industries. Candidate extraction technologies for apigenin: Counter-Current Extraction (CCE), Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE), Hybrid Extraction and Microwave-Assisted Extraction (MAE) (4 in total).

Mechotech's Chamomile Dry Extract plant is engineered around the specific processing requirements of a delicate flower raw material rich in flavonoids and volatile constituents: controlled hydro-alcoholic extraction is used to maximise apigenin and total flavonoid recovery while limiting extraction of chlorophyll and plant waxes that complicate downstream filtration and clarity. Built in SS 316L with electropolished product-contact surfaces, closed-loop solvent recovery, PLC-based automation and full batch documentation, each plant is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system configured to the declared Apigenin By HPLC specification, with filtration and drying stages tuned to the flower's fine particulate matter and moderate mucilage content.

Manufacturing Process

Each extraction method follows a different process — pick a method to see its steps.

1

Raw-Material Preparation

Chamomile flowers are cleaned and size-reduced so apigenin can be reached by the extraction medium; particle size and moisture are set during process development.

2

Counter-Current Loading

Prepared chamomile flowers are fed into a multi-stage solid–liquid counter-current extractor where fresh ethanol/water or a suitable food-grade solvent meets the most-depleted material.

3

Counter-Current Extraction

Solvent flows against the solids across stages to draw out apigenin; bed flow and fines management are verified during pilot work.

4

Extract (Miscella) Collection

The apigenin-bearing miscella is collected from the fresh-feed end while spent solids are discharged from the solvent-entry end.

5

Concentration & Solvent Recovery

Solvent is removed from the clarified apigenin-bearing extract under vacuum and returned through a solvent-recovery loop; recovery performance is confirmed at pilot scale.

6

Standardisation & Drying

The apigenin extract is assayed against the declared target specification and dried or supplied as a concentrate, according to the requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mechotech supply the complete machinery for Chamomile Dry Extract?
Yes. Mechotech is a Chamomile extraction plant manufacturer and equipment supplier, engineering and fabricating the complete turnkey plant at our Hyderabad facility, installing and commissioning it as a single integrated system.
What specification can the Chamomile Dry Extract plant achieve?
The catalogue lists Apigenin By HPLC across the 1% to 10% range for this extract. Total flavonoid standardisation can also be configured on request. The plant is configured to the client’s target specification; the specification achieved is established during process development and pilot validation, and batch-release testing with certificate-of-analysis documentation is defined with the client.
Which part of the Chamomile plant is used?
Commercial Chamomile Dry Extract is produced from the dried flower heads of Matricaria chamomilla (German chamomile) — the plant part that carries the apigenin, flavonoid, and coumarin actives that define the extract's standardisation.
Is this the same plant as Mechotech's chamomile essential-oil distillation lines?
No — this page covers the Chamomile Dry Extract solvent-extraction plant, which produces a standardised flavonoid powder for nutraceutical and cosmetic ingredient use. Mechotech separately offers German Chamomile / Blue Chamomile and Roman Chamomile steam-distillation plants, which produce essential oil rather than a dry extract, for buyers targeting chamomile oil instead. The two product types are also standardised against different marker compounds: this dry extract is standardised to apigenin, a polar flavonoid glycoside, while chamomile essential oil is more commonly graded by its alpha-bisabolol (sesquiterpene alcohol) content — reflecting the genuinely different chemistry each process recovers.
What extraction method is used, and how much solvent is recovered?
Chamomile flower is processed by controlled hydro-alcoholic extraction in closed, jacketed SS 316L extractors across multiple cycles, followed by vacuum concentration and a closed-loop recovery system that returns solvent to the process. For other botanicals needing solvent-based extraction, Mechotech also builds general-purpose solvent extraction plants.
What production capacities are available for the Chamomile Dry Extract plant?
Capacity is selected from raw-material supply, confirmed buyer volume and investment timeline; Mechotech recommends a pilot plant to validate process parameters before scaling.
Which plant part or feed form does the chamomile flower plant process?
The candidate feedstock is chamomile flowers (flowers). The target extract is apigenin.
Which extraction technologies are suitable for chamomile flowers?
This feedstock has 4 candidate technologies: Counter-Current Extraction (CCE), Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE), Hybrid Extraction and Microwave-Assisted Extraction (MAE). See the related pages on counter-current extraction, ultrasound-assisted extraction, hybrid extraction and microwave-assisted extraction. These are screening candidates, not guarantees of yield, purity or recovery; the route is confirmed through process development and pilot validation. In Mechotech's technology screening these candidates are ranked directionally — exploratory: Counter-Current Extraction (rank 93 of 100), Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (rank 93 of 100), Hybrid Extraction (rank 100 of 100), Microwave-Assisted Extraction (rank 93 of 100). Ranks are directional screening priorities at method-family level, not measured yield, ROI or plant guarantees.
How does the chamomile flower extraction process work?
Each route follows the same outline: prepare chamomile flowers, extract apigenin using the technology-specific step, separate and clarify the extract, concentrate it, and recover, standardise and dry. The process tabs above show the steps for each listed technology.
What equipment does the chamomile flower extraction plant include?
The equipment follows the selected route and includes raw material cleaning system; vibratory screen / de-stemming unit; stainless-steel hydro-alcoholic extraction vessels (jacketed, SS 316L); solvent storage tanks; solvent transfer pumps; plate heat exchangers; plate-and-frame filter press / pressure leaf filter; cartridge polish filters. The full list is shown under Major Plant Equipment.
Which related Mechotech extraction pages cover the same material or target?
German chamomile concrete and absolute is covered on the German Chamomile page, and chamomile distillation on the German Chamomile / Blue Chamomile and Roman Chamomile pages.
Which industries use Chamomile Dry Extract?
Nutraceutical manufacturers producing calming and digestive-support supplements, cosmetic and personal-care formulators, and herbal-tea and functional-beverage producers use Mechotech plants for consistent, compliant production. Mechotech also engineers dedicated herbal extraction plants across the wider botanical range.
