Nano Curcumin — 20-100nm Particle Size

Purity Levels

20-100nm particle size, enhanced bioavailability

Standard curcumin extract is poorly absorbed by the body because of its low water solubility and rapid metabolic clearance. Mechotech's nano curcumin plant reduces particle size to the 20-100nm range using high-pressure homogenisation and nanoprecipitation, producing a formulation with substantially higher bioavailability for pharmaceutical and premium nutraceutical use.

Nano curcumin manufacturing adds a size-reduction and stabilisation stage on top of conventional curcumin extraction. Mechotech's plant integrates the standard extraction/concentration process with high-pressure homogenisation, nanoprecipitation, or microfluidisation (selected to match your target particle-size distribution and stabiliser system), followed by particle-size verification and lyophilisation or spray-drying to a stable nano powder. All product-contact surfaces are SS 316L, WHO-GMP compliant, and the system is delivered commissioned and performance-verified.

Manufacturing Process

1

Curcumin Extraction & Standardisation

Turmeric rhizome is extracted and standardised to high-purity curcuminoid extract using the same closed-loop SS 316L extraction and solvent-recovery process as our standard curcumin plant.

2

Nanoformulation

The standardised extract is reduced to a 20-100nm particle size via high-pressure homogenisation, nanoprecipitation, or microfluidisation, with a food/pharma-grade stabiliser system (e.g. phospholipid or polymer encapsulation) selected for your target application.

3

Particle Size Verification

In-line and batch dynamic light scattering (DLS) confirms particle size distribution is within the declared 20-100nm range before proceeding to drying.

4

Stabilisation & Drying

The nano-suspension is spray-dried or lyophilised (freeze-dried) to a stable, redispersible powder, preserving the nano particle size through the drying step.

5

Quality Control

Batch release testing covers particle size distribution, curcuminoid assay, residual solvent, heavy metals, microbial load, and moisture, with full certificate of analysis.

Applications

Key Features

  • 20-100nm Particle Size Control

In-line DLS monitoring holds the finished product within the declared nano particle-size range, batch after batch.

  • GMP-Compliant SS 316L Construction

Electropolished SS 316L product-contact surfaces meet WHO-GMP and Schedule M requirements, with CIP operation between batches.

  • Configurable Nanoformulation Method

High-pressure homogenisation, nanoprecipitation, or microfluidisation is selected and engineered around your target particle size and stabiliser system.

  • Stable, Redispersible Powder Output

Spray-drying or lyophilisation is matched to the formulation to preserve nano particle size through to the finished powder.

  • Scalable Batch Capacity

Plants are configured from pilot scale for formulation development to commercial batch sizes with modular expansion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does curcumin need to be nano-formulated?
Standard curcumin has low water solubility and is rapidly metabolised, so very little reaches the bloodstream unmodified. Reducing particle size to 20-100nm significantly increases surface area and solubility, improving absorption and bioavailability.
What nanoformulation methods does Mechotech's plant support?
High-pressure homogenisation, nanoprecipitation, and microfluidisation are all available; the choice depends on your target particle size, throughput, and stabiliser system, which we help you validate during process design.
How is the 20-100nm particle size verified?
In-line and batch dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurement confirms the particle size distribution is within specification before the batch proceeds to drying, with results included in the certificate of analysis.
Can the same plant produce standard and nano curcumin?
The extraction and standardisation stages are common to both; the nanoformulation stage can be added as a modular add-on to an existing curcumin extraction plant or built into a new turnkey line — talk to our engineering team about the right configuration for your facility.
What batch capacities are available?
Mechotech builds nano curcumin systems from pilot scale for formulation R&D up to commercial production capacity, sized to your confirmed demand and investment timeline.
