Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey extraction plants that process rice bran to recover ferulic acid, gamma-oryzanol oil, and protein and arabinoxylan. We supply the machinery for the route selected after screening — raw-material preparation, extraction, separation, concentration or recovery, and drying or collection — configured to the target specification. Mechotech's technology screening assigns routes by target — ferulic acid: Counter-Current (CCE), Ultrasound (UAE), Hybrid and Microwave (MAE); gamma-oryzanol oil: Supercritical CO₂ (SCFE); protein and arabinoxylan: Subcritical Water (SWE) and Enzyme-Assisted (EAE); the best-ranked route overall is Supercritical CO₂ Extraction (SCFE) (high-priority screening, rank 3 of 100).

For rice bran with ferulic acid, gamma-oryzanol oil, and protein and arabinoxylan as the target, there are 7 candidate technologies: Counter-Current Extraction (CCE), Supercritical CO₂ Extraction (SCFE), Subcritical Water Extraction (SWE), Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE), Enzyme-Assisted Extraction (EAE), Hybrid Extraction and Microwave-Assisted Extraction (MAE). By route — Counter-Current (CCE) for ferulic acid: high-priority screening, rank 10 of 100, ethanol/water or suitable food-grade solvent; Supercritical CO₂ (SCFE) for gamma-oryzanol oil: high-priority screening, rank 3 of 100, CO₂; optional ethanol modifier; Subcritical Water (SWE) for protein and arabinoxylan: high-priority screening, rank 10 of 100, pressurized water; Ultrasound (UAE) for ferulic acid: high-priority screening, rank 10 of 100, ethanol/water or water; Enzyme-Assisted (EAE) for protein and arabinoxylan: high-priority screening, rank 9 of 100, water, enzyme and pH control; Hybrid for ferulic acid: high-priority screening, rank 10 of 100, sequence selected by target; Microwave (MAE) for ferulic acid: high-priority screening, rank 10 of 100, ethanol/water or water. For the best-ranked route, Supercritical CO₂ (SCFE), the screening flags: nonpolar fraction preferred; polar targets may need modifier and separate validation. These are screening candidates rather than guarantees: the final technology, operating parameters and plant configuration are established during process development and pilot validation. Product-contact parts are built in SS 316L with CIP-cleanable design, and automation is configured to the project.

Manufacturing Process

Each extraction method follows a different process — pick a method to see its steps.

1

Raw-Material Preparation

Rice bran is cleaned and size-reduced so ferulic acid can be reached by the extraction medium; particle size and moisture are set during process development.

2

Counter-Current Loading

Prepared rice bran is fed into a multi-stage solid–liquid counter-current extractor where fresh ethanol/water or a suitable food-grade solvent meets the most-depleted material.

3

Counter-Current Extraction

Solvent flows against the solids across stages to draw out ferulic acid; bed flow and fines management are verified during pilot work.

4

Extract (Miscella) Collection

The ferulic acid-bearing miscella is collected from the fresh-feed end while spent solids are discharged from the solvent-entry end.

5

Concentration & Solvent Recovery

Solvent is removed from the clarified ferulic acid-bearing extract under vacuum and returned through a solvent-recovery loop; recovery performance is confirmed at pilot scale.

6

Standardisation & Drying

The ferulic acid extract is assayed against the declared target specification and dried or supplied as a concentrate, according to the requirement.

Key Features

  • Supercritical CO₂ (SCFE) — High-Priority Screening Fit

Best-ranked route for rice bran: rank 3 of 100 in Mechotech's supercritical CO₂ extraction screening, using CO₂; optional ethanol modifier. Ranks are directional screening priorities, not measured yield, ROI or plant guarantees.

  • Rice bran — 7 Candidate Routes

    Routes screened for rice bran: Counter-Current (CCE) — high-priority, rank 10; Supercritical CO₂ (SCFE) — high-priority, rank 3; Subcritical Water (SWE) — high-priority, rank 10; Ultrasound (UAE) — high-priority, rank 10; Enzyme-Assisted (EAE) — high-priority, rank 9; Hybrid — high-priority, rank 10; Microwave (MAE) — high-priority, rank 10. Each route has its own process tab above.

  • 3-Target Scope
