Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey extraction plants that process coffee spent grounds to recover chlorogenic acids, coffee oil and mannans. We supply the machinery for the route selected after screening — raw-material preparation, extraction, separation, concentration or recovery, and drying or collection — configured to the target specification. Mechotech's technology screening assigns routes by target — chlorogenic acids: Counter-Current (CCE), Ultrasound (UAE), Hybrid and Microwave (MAE); coffee oil: Supercritical CO₂ (SCFE); mannans: Subcritical Water (SWE) and Enzyme-Assisted (EAE); the best-ranked route overall is Enzyme-Assisted Extraction (EAE) (high-priority screening, rank 16 of 100).

For coffee spent grounds with chlorogenic acids, coffee oil and mannans as the target, there are 7 candidate technologies: Counter-Current Extraction (CCE), Supercritical CO₂ Extraction (SCFE), Subcritical Water Extraction (SWE), Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE), Enzyme-Assisted Extraction (EAE), Hybrid Extraction and Microwave-Assisted Extraction (MAE). By route — Counter-Current (CCE) for chlorogenic acids: relevant screening, rank 54 of 100, ethanol/water or suitable food-grade solvent; Supercritical CO₂ (SCFE) for coffee oil: high-priority screening, rank 18 of 100, CO₂; optional ethanol modifier; Subcritical Water (SWE) for mannans: high-priority screening, rank 20 of 100, pressurized water; Ultrasound (UAE) for chlorogenic acids: relevant screening, rank 54 of 100, ethanol/water or water; Enzyme-Assisted (EAE) for mannans: high-priority screening, rank 16 of 100, water, enzyme and pH control; Hybrid for chlorogenic acids: relevant screening, rank 59 of 100, sequence selected by target; Microwave (MAE) for chlorogenic acids: relevant screening, rank 54 of 100, ethanol/water or water. For the best-ranked route, Enzyme-Assisted (EAE), the screening flags: select cellulase/pectinase/protease by matrix; control enzyme cost and inactivation. These are screening candidates rather than guarantees: the final technology, operating parameters and plant configuration are established during process development and pilot validation. Product-contact parts are built in SS 316L with CIP-cleanable design, and automation is configured to the project.

Manufacturing Process

Each extraction method follows a different process — pick a method to see its steps.

1

Raw-Material Preparation

Coffee spent grounds are cleaned and size-reduced so chlorogenic acids can be reached by the extraction medium; particle size and moisture are set during process development.

2

Counter-Current Loading

Prepared coffee spent grounds are fed into a multi-stage solid–liquid counter-current extractor where fresh ethanol/water or a suitable food-grade solvent meets the most-depleted material.

3

Counter-Current Extraction

Solvent flows against the solids across stages to draw out chlorogenic acids; bed flow and fines management are verified during pilot work.

4

Extract (Miscella) Collection

The chlorogenic acids-bearing miscella is collected from the fresh-feed end while spent solids are discharged from the solvent-entry end.

5

Concentration & Solvent Recovery

Solvent is removed from the clarified chlorogenic acids-bearing extract under vacuum and returned through a solvent-recovery loop; recovery performance is confirmed at pilot scale.

6

Standardisation & Drying

The chlorogenic acids extract is assayed against the declared target specification and dried or supplied as a concentrate, according to the requirement.
