Tamarind Pulp Extract

5% Tartaric Acid
Extraction Technologies
Mechotech designs and manufactures turnkey herbal extraction plants for Tamarind (Tamarindus indica), standardised to 5% Tartaric Acid. Tartaric acid is a genuine, well-documented organic acid concentrated in the fruit pulp, chemically distinct from the alkaloids, glycosides and phenolic compounds that dominate most botanicals on our extraction range — a real differentiator that shapes the process around aqueous organic-acid recovery rather than solvent-based actives extraction. We supply the complete machinery — pod de-shelling, pulp separation, aqueous extraction, filtration, vacuum concentration, standardisation and drying — to process tamarind pulp into a consistent, standardised extract for the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries. Candidate extraction technologies for tartaric acid and phenolics: Counter-Current Extraction (CCE), Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE), Hybrid Extraction and Microwave-Assisted Extraction (MAE) (4 in total).
Mechotech's Tamarind plant is engineered around the specific chemistry of tartaric acid, a stable dicarboxylic organic acid that is highly water-soluble and does not require the hydro-alcoholic solvent systems typical of alkaloid or glycoside botanicals — allowing the process to be built around aqueous extraction, clarification and concentration of the fruit pulp. Because tamarind pulp also contains sugars, pectin and other organic acids (notably citric and malic acid) alongside tartaric acid, the filtration and concentration stages are tuned to selectively retain the tartaric acid fraction while managing viscosity and colour from the pulp's natural pectin content. Built in SS 316L with electropolished product-contact surfaces, integrated filtration and concentration systems, PLC-based automation and full batch documentation, each plant is delivered as a commissioned turnkey system engineered to the declared 5% Tartaric Acid specification.

Manufacturing Process
Each extraction method follows a different process — pick a method to see its steps.
Raw-Material Preparation
Tamarind pulp is cleaned and size-reduced so tartaric acid and phenolics can be reached by the extraction medium; particle size and moisture are set during process development.
Counter-Current Loading
Prepared tamarind pulp is fed into a multi-stage solid–liquid counter-current extractor where fresh ethanol/water or a suitable food-grade solvent meets the most-depleted material.
Counter-Current Extraction
Solvent flows against the solids across stages to draw out tartaric acid and phenolics; bed flow and fines management are verified during pilot work.
Extract (Miscella) Collection
The tartaric acid and phenolics-bearing miscella is collected from the fresh-feed end while spent solids are discharged from the solvent-entry end.
Concentration & Solvent Recovery
Solvent is removed from the clarified tartaric acid and phenolics-bearing extract under vacuum and returned through a solvent-recovery loop; recovery performance is confirmed at pilot scale.
Standardisation & Drying
The tartaric acid and phenolics extract is assayed against the declared target specification and dried or supplied as a concentrate, according to the requirement.
Raw-Material Preparation
Tamarind pulp is cleaned and size-reduced so tartaric acid and phenolics can be reached by the extraction medium; particle size and moisture are set during process development.
Slurrying
Prepared tamarind pulp is slurried with ethanol/water or water in the extraction vessel.
Ultrasonic Cavitation
Ultrasound creates cavitation that disrupts the plant matrix and speeds release of tartaric acid and phenolics; probe intensity, temperature and filtration behaviour are piloted.
Separation
Spent solids are separated by filtration or centrifugation and the extract is clarified before concentration.
Stage Sequence Selection
A deliberate combined extraction train is used: the sequence of stages is selected for tartaric acid and phenolics in pilot screening and each stage is designed separately.
First Assisted Stage
The first stage releases tartaric acid and phenolics from the prepared feed under controlled conditions set for that stage.
Second / Combined Stage
The second stage completes recovery of tartaric acid and phenolics from the partially extracted material; stage conditions are optimised separately.
Separation & Concentration
Spent solids are removed and the combined extract is clarified and concentrated; solvent is recovered where a solvent is used.
Medium Mixing
Prepared tamarind pulp is mixed with ethanol/water or water in the microwave extraction vessel.
Microwave Heating & Extraction
Controlled microwave heating drives tartaric acid and phenolics out of the prepared feed in a short cycle; heating, moisture, solvent safety and temperature-sensitive targets are controlled, with limits set during process development and pilot validation.
Separation
Spent solids are separated by filtration or centrifugation and the extract is clarified before concentration.
Concentration & Solvent Recovery
Solvent is removed from the clarified tartaric acid and phenolics-bearing extract under vacuum and returned through a solvent-recovery loop; recovery performance is confirmed at pilot scale.

Key Features
GMP Hygienic SS 316L Construction
Electropolished SS 316L product-contact surfaces use GMP, HACCP and FSSAI hygienic design, with CIP operation between batches.
Aqueous, Organic-Acid-Led Process
The plant is engineered around aqueous extraction of a water-soluble organic acid — a genuinely different chemistry class from the alkaloid, glycoside and phenolic actives typical of most botanical extraction lines, avoiding unnecessary solvent handling.
Titration-Verified Standardisation
In-process and batch-release titration assay are used to check the finished extract against its declared 5% Tartaric Acid specification, with full certificate-of-analysis documentation.
Integrated Drying
A matched spray/vacuum dryer produces a free-flowing, low-moisture powder ready for blending, or the line can finish as a liquid concentrate to buyer specification.
Food-Grade Hygienic Design
Pulp handling, de-fibring and filtration stages are built to FSSAI and HACCP hygienic-design standards suited to food and beverage end use.
Scalable Batch Capacity
Plants are configured to raw-material supply and confirmed buyer volume, with modular expansion.
